Okay, so ever since things have calmed down in the anxiety department for me, and since I kicked xBF out, I've been eating a lot more. Not depressed eating, I think I was so strung out/stressed out from dealing with a crazy relationship/post divorce/lots of self-issues that I didn't eat much at all because I never had an appetite.
I have noticed that I have rapidly gained 15 lbs though, within the course of 4 months.
I really really need to eat healthier, but I don't have the means to grocery shop until I get a paycheck on Friday.
I am also thinking of trying to make sure I go for a walk every day, at least, and possibly in the not so distant future start running.
Any tips on losing some excess weight? I'd really love to lose 40 lbs in total but I'm in no hurry. The last time I lost weight, I was seeing a trainer and doing bootcamp and I no longer have the finances to do that, nor do I have access to the gym.
Any thoughts?
Also: ETA: May sound corny but does anyone wanna lose weight/get healthy with me? We can motivate each other?
-cut out booze. bonus: you'll save a lot of money -check netflix or amazon for cheap workout vidoes. I just got 30 day shred and my SO does an ab workout or insanity every day -working out is great but your diet will impact weight loss much more. cut out white foods (white bread, sugar, white pasta) and eat a lot of lean protein and green veggies (can do frozen to save $) -I use livestrong to count calories and it helps keep me on track

I use sparkpeople to track my calories, and it's so helpful for me to have to decide how I want to 'spend' my 'fun' calories (my own made-up category), i.e. do i want a beer? or dessert? it really helps with my portioning. I've also started eating 3 small meals and 2 heartier snacks throughout the day, and it keeps me not hungry and energized better.
Also, I am loving smoothies and buying frozen fruit is a very cheap way to do it.
I do a workout routine at home in the morning, because i'm too cheap and lazy to go to the gym.

Personally, I just try to eat generally healthy food. I don't beat myself up when I eat junk but the better I eat the less I want junk. I try to stop myself and ask am I hungry or am I bored, thirsty, lonely, etc before I eat.
For me exercise is an appetite suppresant. You can do yoga or pilates in your living room. Do jumping jacks, push ups, etc. I like to blast music and dance or out hiking/walking. All of these are free.
Also if you think you are an emotional eater or emotional non-eater check out Women, good and god by Tithe from the library.

I use this personal trainer app on my droid called Noom. I can record my exercise, what I eat, and weigh ins with it. It's completely integrated....and I love it.

Ditto look for Gozf's post.
Also, if you go out to eat (including fast food), try to cut that out as much as possible. It will save a lot of money and calories! Try to stay away from frozen dinners, Hamburger Helpers, etc--the really processed stuff. It's simple and dirt cheap to dump the ingredients for chili into a crockpot and let it cook all day, and voila, you have a healthy, hearty, cheap meal that freezes and reheats well! I like to make a couple big meals on the weekend and portion it out for BF and I to take for lunch during the week. That way, it's just as easy and convenient as a frozen dinner, but it's homemade goodness!
I agree with a lot of what is written here. They say that the formula to lose weight is something like 70% diet, 15% weight training, and 15% cardio, or something like that. Basically, what you eat is the single most important thing. Definitely eliminate as much of the processed crap as you can and when you go grocery shopping try to stick to the outside of the store - fresh fruits and veggies, lean meats, low-fat dairy. I've lost 75lbs by eating as clean of a diet as possible and when I'm eating right, I feel awesome, when I eat like crap, wel, I feel like crap.

Thank you all I will look for your post gozf It's a pain in the butt. I lost 100 lbs twice before but gained due to a back injury that resulted in surgery (the first time) and now it's because I'm an emotional non-eater and now I'm actually happy again. Thanks again!!
I'm the same as you. I have no appetite when I'm upset about something, but when I'm happy, I mindlessly munch of everything in sight. I've also lulled myself into complacency b/c the BF isn't into super skinny girls, but the fact of the matter is that I've totally let myself go.
I don't want to be super skinny. I just want my pants to fit comfortably again.

Agreed. My pants are uncomfortable again, and I'm not down with that. Are you cold turkeying the cigs? I tried and I couldn't do it...but I plan on starting over with the quitting of the cigs soon enough, once I get into an exercise habit.
I was away with my family last week, which made it easier. I don't smoke in front of them, and my cravings were substantially diminished when I was taken out of my normal routine. I won't lie, sometimes it's really hard when people are smoking around me. But I realize that it would be really dumb to start up again, so I'm hanging tough!
Odd suggestion, but is weight watchers an option? I know during the school year I don't have the time (or the inclination) to count every.single.calorie, but the program takes out the guesswork and actually makes me think more critically about my eating habits. I'm also a happy eater, so knowing I'll have to track it helps curb the mindless munching.
