you sign up, pay $25 and post pics (private). If you lose 4% of your starting weight over the next 4 weeks, you win. Winners split the pot (currently over $1000)
I am in. I could use something for a little weight loss motivation.
How are they going to know who is telling the truth? 4% on one person could look dramatically different than on another.
My local board did this. I THINK you have to take a time & date stamped pic on the scale in like.....a sports bra & shorts, then you have to weigh yourself at the same time of day, everyday you weigh in & take a new pic. I'm sure you could still find a way to cheat, but this helps a little bit.
What clseale said (well, except for the part about the local board..)
I had to take a pic in " airport security attire" (I wore a running skirt and fitted tee ) standing on the scale and a pic of the scale's display with my feet on it and an index card with a specific word on it. I emailed the pics off and got verification of my starting weight less than an hour later.
It's not impossible to cheat but there are some attempts to prevent it. I think participants either finish and lose and win or quit partway through, I doubt there are many who get to like 3.85% weight loss and don't find a way to win. DietBet seems to think that about 35% will win this, which means, if you do lose, you could double your money or so (of course the company takes a cut.)
Anyway, I'm competitive and cheap, I'm losing anyway, and I need something to refocus me. I like this plan
I really like the dietbet method, it creates the competition people like (not all people!) and motivation and a common cause. I'd join one but 4% body weight for me is nearly 6 lbs and it took me 5 months to lose the last 6lbs.
I won one earlier this week (a whole $127 woohoo! But it almost covers my 1/2 marathon fee) and I'm in this one. I've done a few of them in the past and it's a trust-worthy site.
