Ahhh Susie! You're going to be great!!! I can't wait to hear all about it!
And clseale is right - I have an Oly this weekend (which I'm actually nervous about) but my HIM is 8/4. My ticker just switched from in the 2 months away countdown to the 1s and it makes me NERVOUS!!!!!
And thanks to all you crazy ass friends, I keep exploring the fulls that *might* work for me this next year.
You know, while you're all "in here" - I'm wondering about my nutrition. Do you guys take the bulk of your cals in on the bike in fluids - is it infinit or heed, or what? I want to get things nailed down in the next few weeks, and I just feel like I need more.
I use carbo pro and Electrolyte Fuel Systems drink, mixed together for my calories and electrolytes. I'm also eating honey stingers, because that is what they have on the course. For all of my long rides mixing the carbo pro and EFS has been really good for me. I haven't been eating as much of the honey stingers but I always take them with me if I need them. It's rely hard to get all of your calories just by eating alone. Nuun has 2 calories so that's not going to help you, I think Hammer Heed is disgusting and doesn't have enough sodium in it.
Also, after any workout longer than an hour I use Endurox R4 recovery drink. I've noticed how shitty I feel the day after after a long hard workout if I don't have my recovery drink or I wait too long to have it (I try to have it within 15 minutes of ending my workout). When I use it I feel pretty good the next day. It has the correct ratio of carbs to protein so your body can recover.
Ali how are you doing?! Is your volume getting crazy?
Yes! Lots of working out! I'm tired and school is ending in 7 days: report cards, cleaning room, and various odds and ends to finish. I missed my workout today, it's a short one so its ok. Sometimes you just have to do your job lol!! I have a 70.3 on June 16, I feel like I'm not ready!! But maybe I am more ready than I think! Once school is out I'll be hitting 20 hour training weeks! I'm kind of excited for it!!
Ok - thanks for that info. I need to look into trying some things ASAP. I'm happy with my recovery product, and I agree it makes a world of difference!!
You have to write a full report on your 70.3. You are SO ready. So, so ready. You & Susie will be on my mind that weekend! I'm anxious for you to get off school and get into the meat of those long rides & runs. Maybe you'll have more time to blog while you're sipping your recovery drink . Lol, I'm so obsessed lately, it's like I can't read enough!! I want every race report, every detail, every everything!

Yes, I'm planning to primarily use liquid nutrition on the bike. Heed is what they have on my course, so that's what I've gotten myself used to. It doesn't taste good, but it's working for me. I use lemon lime. A lot of products make me burp, which hurts, and this doesn't.
I will also take a gel flask, and I'm not dead sure what else (10 days out!). I'd really like to have some piece of actual food. Jelly sandwiches have been rec'd, I might do part of one. All "food" will happen on loop 1 (of 2) of my bike course so it's settled by the run. I don't think I'm swish enough to eat a honey stinger while riding; they always crumble on me.

I think I'd like some actual food, too, but I need to do some experimenting. I've also heard really good things about fig newtons.
My course has Perform, which I need to order and try. I'd rather not carry a bunch of stuff on the run, so I hope it is ok for me.
Man, so many variables and so much to think about!
On the bike, I usually used Infinit and sometimes took bites of bars just for some variety. For the run, I practiced with whatever the course offered so I didn't have to carry anything. I liked flat coke and chicken soup (if the course offered them) on runs too.

I thought you used infinit! I meant to ask you last weekend. Ok, I'm going to order some things tonight. I think some kind of bar will be best for me. Maybe I can just break them up and keep pieces in a bento to grab every so often. Must practice!!
My course doesn't have soup or broth, so I think I need to start salt tabs. I probably could use them for a couple of oly's, too, since its warming up!
