Are these ugly and tacky or are they ok?

Hi everyone,
I'm not a regular poster but I was hoping you can help with a quick poll. Please see the boxed shelves in the attached picture. Are these considered tacky or are they ok?  Brutal honesty needed, thanks!

They're okay, but they're lonely. You need more around them so they're just not random boxes hanging on the wall with stuff in them.

Perfectly fine if arranged better. They don't look right that way at all.
I just read an article in some decor magazine about why they were better than regular shelves and how to dress them up..so I don't think they're ugly/tacky at all.

Thanks! I just looked online to try to see how best to arrange them. Do they just need to be closer to each other? That's the only thing I really see when I did an image search.

They need to be closer and in general, hey are too small to be alone on that big wall. Is there a smaller wall you could group them on?

Well, I'm redecorating that entire wall so I'm probably going to completely do away with them. But if I keep them, I will put them closer together and I'm definitely putting a whole bunch more things on the wall, so they wouldn't be all by themselves anymore.

They are not my personal style but painted a different color and on a smaller wall I think they could look cute.

You can group them with pictures or something other than just the shelves. Sometimes something like that is perfect for showcasing a special item.
