I haven't seen them in person just pictures on the board as I went through the drive-thru and they didn't look to special. But I can't judge on the real deal as I have only seen the picture. But does that mean they got rid of the pumpkin scones?? I loved those.
The pumpkin loaf is probably the closest to pumpkin scones. Looks like nothing similar to my cinnamon scone, but the coffee cake looks good and so do the morning buns. We'll see.
I really liked all three things I've tried so far. I thought the chocolate croissant was really yummy (just tried a sample). I've also tried the Raspberry Passionfruit Loaf (which was huge) & the Chocolate Molten Cake (which was small but super rich so I don't think I would have wanted a bigger size). I'm looking forward to trying the cheese Danish & the ham & cheese croissant.
When I read the article in the Times about the changeover, I wasn't pleased. I haven't tried any yet, but I'm just annoyed that they're calling everything croissants in the first place but consider it all "Frenchified" in which case, PAIN AU CHOCOLAT. They claimed in the article they were keeping the super-popular lemon loaf which will now be a loaf instead of a slice. I dunno, I don't want to have to get a whole loaf instead of a slice and turned the pumpkin cream cheese into a loaf. It LOOKs like they left my morning buns alone But my true standbys are gone (8grain roll, the summer peach muffin, the apple-bran muffin that's hard to find, petite vanilla scones)! I've already been annoyed by the fact they stopped carrying the ONE panini that was cheese-free (roasted veggie and it was good!)
Perks of my job gave me access to the La Boulange stuff in mid-May. I think the croissants are pretty tasty. I think my favorite is the Cheese Danish! But do miss some of my favorites (Cinnamon Swirl Coffee Cake!!).
@ivankitteh - They still have the petite vanilla scones around...
I loved their reduced fat very berry coffee cake pre change. I tried the new version this morning, and didn't like it at all. It was way too sweet. The portion size was okay. But didn't like the tast at all. Boo. AND, it's kind of a clusterfuck when it's busy in there, with the heating them up. My drink was ready way before my gross pastry.
Oh well... Looks like I'll be saving a little money, and not getting a pastry.
i love what i've tasted so far! also, they told me it was pinks bakery. which is why they are wearing pink and their pastries will always be associated with something pink. i think they taste good. i just don't want my pastries heated..
So people who have tried (I am guessing it's only @ksta...) How does the new pastries/French baked goods compare to like Honore and Besalu?
I've never been to either of those bakeries, but have been to Bakery Nouveau many, many times (and it gets lots of press as a world-class French bakery). These are not on par with Nouveau. But I would never expect them to be. Starbucks will never be able to match that quality unless they actually brought in on-site baking facilities, which won't happen. But for stuff that's made ahead and shipped to the stores, it's really good.

About the morning buns. ..I had one the other day and I swear it tasted like it had orange in it. Maybe I got a weird one but I really loved the old morning buns but I'm not a huge fan of orange.

Maybe I got one that was touching something with orange. Or maybe there is something wrong with my taste buds I am glad there isn't orange and it was a one time thing because those morning buns are delicious!

Like kooshball said, it does have orange in it--orange zest. You're not imagining things.

Oh gosh. Reading comprehension fail. Good thing I don't teach that or anything...
By the way, coworker bought one of the pumpkin loafs. That was a waste. The cream cheese swirled in the top was so thin that it was basically a little white swirl, even just picking a piece of that the taste and I couldn't taste it at all! And it was less than a toothpick deep. NOT impressed.
I hate when they add orange or lemon to things like that without saying anything! When I worked in a bakery we had cinnamon rolls and a nut bun/roll thing that they added orange to but I didn't know until I tried one thinking it would be a good ol' fashion cinnamon roll. Nope! always such a disappointment when they do that!
Thats like the berry coffee cake they had I got thinking it would be a coffee cake with berries only to find out it was a lemon coffee cake base. Not a happy camper.
