people who make posters like this are why my mom is PSYCHED to be retiring this year. she was a teacher, then a counselor, and now a librarian. in elementary, middle, and high school.

So she's been every profession ever! She probably helped a kid find a book about astronauts once, so she can add that to her list as well:)
Lets be honest. Most teachers aren't this dedicated. I know some support staff who would say that they're the ones doing all of this.
I think some teachers are underpaid and undervalued, but I'm also not sure there are enough good ones to merit a massive pay hike.
As a support staff doing all the work, I'll take the pay hike. In reality the certified teacher in my room is awesome and does way more work than I do.
Can't decided if this is more or less annoying than the memes for SAHMs that basically say the same thing. I mean I work in public service and noone really gives a shit about what I do either, but I am not going to be a martyr over it.
When mother and father are gone all day, I become both? Lol. Fuck her.
that was my absolute favorite too. oh, by "gone for the day" you mean "due to compulsory education laws they dropped off their children at school"? mmm-hmmm. that doesn't exactly make you the temporary foster parent of abandoned and unloved offspring.

I don't know "Most teachers," and therefore, I cannot comment on how dedicated they are. It's a generalization that is unable to be tested since how could anyone possibly quantify/measure "dedication" accurately.
My dad isn't a banker nor a CEO, but he is a controller of a huge, multi-million dollar company in our area. He makes a LOT of money - more than I'll ever be able to dream about - and I'm sure some people put him in the class of "cushy wealthy businessman." But even he goes through a hell of a lot of stress that raises his blood pressure to unhealthy levels. The man works 90 hours a week sometimes and is responsible for the jobs and livelihood of hundreds of people; I'll never have that resting on my shoulders, and I'd never want to.
But that's the point. He is at least very well compensated (probably in the 1%) for all of the stress/hard-work. Teachers and SAHM have long, long hours and stress but are paid crap (or not really paid in the case of the SAHM). I'm not a K-12 teacher or SAHM but I do empathize with them. Our society only seems to value things that can be monetized or bring in money; as a result, SAHM or low-paying careers like education not seen as valuable to society (despite the fact that these are arguably the MOST important jobs since they are molding future generations.)
Yeah, we do a lot of this stuff, but it doesn't make it our job, it's not our specialties, and it's demeaning to those whose professions the poster is claiming to "do." Especially the Mom and Dad. No one can take the job of Mom and Dad. Teachers have a lot of fucking responsibilities. But they aren't the only profession that takes dedication, sacrifice, and abuse from the public.
This poster is akin to Think of the Soldiers. Think of the mofucking teachers.
I don't think the purpose of the meme is to suggest that teachers are the only people who lots of responsibilities. I am not a K-12 educator, but I believe the poster is in response to increasing anti-intellectual environment in the U.S. (and perhaps elsewhere?) that derides teachers. In certain parts of the US (like the state that I am in), teachers are routinely attacked by politicians and parents; education is always on the chopping block during state budgetary talks; and one party even in their platform eschews "critical thinking." It is clear to me why some teachers may feel the need to try to counteract this impression...
i disagree entirely. the poster is a schmaltzy attempt to play up bullshit martyrdom and conflates the NORMAL, totally typical, adulthood-wide reality of multitasking and application of a variety of skills to any one job/career/life situation with actually fully performing jobs like "travel agent" and "mom and dad" and "party planner" all at the same time. please.
many MANY of my friends (and family members) are teachers. the dedicated, awesome, creative, focused kind you'd all want for your kids. and they HATE this bullshit. it's reducing their profession, which is supposed to be about encouraging learning and passion and rigor and creative, critical thinking into some nonsense babysitting omigah i also have to keep the class from fighting so i'm a cop!

I'm sure a FB Marty campaign was the best way to counteract this.
I didn't say that it was a good way to counteract this mistaken impression--only that I think this is why people might post the meme. I personally don't like memes and would never post something like this about any profession.
unlocked lab door- locksmith turned on lights- electrician started computer- IT specialist responded to email- literary mastermind cured cancer- well, not all of it went potty- urologist played on my cell phone- teenager filled out vacation request form- lawyer
bitch please, it isn't even 9:30am. Imma do ALL THE JOBS today

I am not entirely sure about which point you disagree. Do you disagree that the U.S. is very anti-intellectual (this was the part that you bold-faced)? I could certainly provide examples. I can also provide statistics on the increase in student-teacher ratios in public and private schools and budgetary data that all together suggest that K-12 education is simply not a priority in the US. Teachers have a huge responsibility and are in the spotlight more than most other professions but we do not pay them in line with their level of responsibility. It sucks for them and I do not begrudge them getting frustrated at times and posting memes and so forth.

oh, please, do school me with statistics about education in the u.s.
no, i disagree that this poster is a measured, intentional response to anti-intellectualism. rather than the knee-jerk public promotion of nonsense, alleged self-flagellation.

pity your teachers didn't focus on understanding and detecting sarcasm and irony. or on reading comprehension. since, as is demonstrated by several other responses here, everyone else got my point the first time.
but i appreciate the hyperlinks with education statistics. so helpful when you're engaging in a discussion about something totally unrelated to education statistics.
Let me guess, this was posted by a Canadian teacher, right? Several Canadian teachers in my newsfeed are so insufferable I've almost blocked them. They constantly preach about how hard they work and how much more money they deserve. You know who else works hard? Most people, in most professions.
I am not sure that most people in most professions are working as hard as teachers. When teachers are "on the clock," my understanding is that they cannot be surfing the web and posting on Facebook like many people I observe day-to-day do when they are on the clock. Professions differ in terms of their impact on society and I would put educators, doctors, law enforcement, and others like them as the most important for our society. These people are deserving of our kudos and not derision.

This is what drives me crazy about the ones on my newsfeed. One girl in particular always says how she works so hard and her job is so difficult that she earns the 3 months off she has for summer break and other professions don't work as hard as she does blah blah. Yeah, because I sit around and eat bonbons all day. Well, ok, today is a bad example but WHATEVER. lol
I hate the SAHM one. HATE. I swear, every time I tell someone I'm a SAHM, I get a "I know you work so hard...." I know people are trying to be sensitive and I appreciate that, but it just makes me feel icky and embarrassed. Probably because I like my life, have one kid and don't really work that hard, lol.

I totally get that. But every job could make a martyr list.
Really? Those poor big bankers who got bailed out by the taxpayers and proceeded to take trips to resorts and pay themselves as CEO millions...they are such martyrs.
Sure, but they could also make a list of different facets of the job listed as professions. That is what is cueing the eye roll. And many of them don't even make sense. "Banker" for collecting money in payment? Does that mean every cashier's primary role is as a banker?

I feel the same way. I have an easy kid and a really helpful husband. I am lucky to get to do this. I'm not saying it doesn't have hard, sucky days, but every one had hard, sucky days.
I think everyone should share their respective careers of the day. Today, I have:
Sewed a button back on a pair of pants -- SEAMSTRESS Made breakfast -- CHEF! DIETICIAN!! Had a worker from a consignment shop come over to look at a trunk I want to sell -- SALESWOMAN Had to turn my laptop off then back on again to get it to work -- COMPUTER ENGINEER
