Y'all, I have been in the market for a china cabinet for the LONGEST time and have had absolutely zero luck finding anything I like on CL. Most things classified as a china cabinet on CL are too ornate for my taste or are just outright ugly IMO. So I started thinking I might consider a buffet instead and widened my search. Today I found this. It is a dresser but I think it would function fine as a buffet. I could store my china in the bottom drawers and my table linens in the upper drawers. It is a gorgeous finish and just needs a few touchups. If it doesn't work as a buffet there are 2 other places in my house I think I could use it. It's $30. Would you grab it up?
I am also looking for a low boy or a buffet but I want glass doors either on each end or in 2 middle sections. I have a huge crystal collection and even though I have a really huge antique display case that I have it all on, I need more space so i want something with some glass doors to move some of the crystal to and I want sections with either solid doors or drawers to put table linens in. I want something low so I can put it in front of the dining room windows.
The "hutch" or display case I have is something my dad picked up somewhere, he actually kept in the tack room of their barn for trophies and whatever. It is 9' tall and about 8' long. The top 2 shelves have sliding doors, then there is a shelf without doors, the lower section is 2 glass shelves (we added them, the originals were missing) and the bottom. The top is about 9" deep but starting with the open shelf, the bottom keeps widening at a slope until the base is about 15" wide.
All of the shelves are full of china. I inherited both my mom's and my grandmothers and it is all the same pattern.
I have not found what I want at a price I'm willing to pay - which means I want it dirt cheap.
I want a low boy or a buffet that I can put in front of our dining room window. I want it to be fairly long so that it either has glass doors on each end and solid drawers or doors in the middle - or the reverse, glass doors in the middle and solid drawers/doors on the end. I want to use the solid area for table linens and the glass area for crystal.
I inherited both my mom's and grandmother's crystal, they are the same pattern. I've also added a few pieces over the years that I've picked up at garage sales, etc. I have a huge antique glass front display case that I have it all in now but it is crammed in there. When I say huge I mean 9' tall and about 8' long. the depth at the top is 9'. There are 2 shelves with glass sliding doors at the top, the next section is an open shelf. From that open shelf down it slopes so that the base ends up being 15" wide with 2 huge glass sliding doors. Inside are 2 glass shelves that we added (the originals were missing) and then the bottom of the unit itself. It's very unsual, not my favorite piece of furniture but it does the job. We get a lot of compliments on it, just not quite my cup of tea.
I need to keep checking CL, something will turn up - but I also want it dirt cheap.
Did you get it? I have been wondering and waiting for an update since you posted.
Sitting here.
I didn't get it. I called DH all excited and he informed me he had to work on Saturday and didn't know when he would be home with his truck, so I was pretty dejected.
The ad was a repost due to no shows and I could tell from the way the ad was written that the person was pretty frustrated. It basically said if the ad is still up on CL then item is still available and don't email them to ask. Also said if you can't p/u within 24 hours don't bother. So I didn't dare email about it on Friday and ask if he/she could hold until Sunday. I decided to check on Saturday and if it was still up, I would email that I wanted the item and could p/u on Sunday. But when I checked on Saturday, the ad was gone.
Oh well, I guess it wasn't meant to be. Back to the drawing board.
