I eat a pretty balanced diet but DH is doing a low carb thing for the next 2 weeks. That prompted me to look for some new recipes and do a bit more reading on low carb diets. So, my question is how much sugar to you all usually eat in a day? I read that women should have no more than 30 grams. I eat a pretty decent cereal with almond milk every day and that alone is 21 grams. I don't really add sugar to anything and other than bread and fruit I don't have any other sugar in my diet. I was just wondering if this is something I should watch more closely.
I have no blood sugar issues so I try not to worry too much about it. The big thing is added sugars vs natural sugars. I try to limit my added sugars but don't stress about the overall number (especially on apps like MFP) because they don't differentiate between added vs natural and I eat tons of fruit- putting me way over the "suggested limits" each day.
They are actually the same thing, and natural sugars such as honey and agave can be just as bad as table sugar. The difference is in the non-sugar aspect - sugar in fruit is balanced with fiber that helps to slow digestion, and other nutrients.
