I am NOT a fast person, but only signed up for this race so I could finish early and be there to cheer on my new-to-running girlfriend on her first 10k. So I decided, hell, why not... have fun, run hard, and don't puke.
First mile, 8:03. Second mile, 8:23... then WTF I WAS DONE?! Course measured 2.54 on my garmin!!! Finished at 21 minutes... ugh! Average pace was 8:15 and I was on my way to a 5k PR by almost 4 minutes (likely just over a 24 minute finish)! I have only run TWO 5ks before, both in the first month I started running last year, and I was so excited! Arrrggghhh!!!
Oh well. At least my friend saw a great sign on her last mile
How did they have a course that was so poorly measured?
GOOD QUESTION. It was an inagural race with a 5k, 10k, and half... there were SO many issues with the race. 20 minute late start, etc. It was pretty pathetic but the price was right ($17) and the swag was decent (medal, shirt, beer, pint glass, good food). They definitely focused on all of the details BESIDES the race! Oh well, pretty hilarious actually
