If you swim a lot, what do you do to take care of your hair?
I'm in the pool everyday with my little one and I want to keep my hair as healthy as possible. I've heard that getting your hair wet with just water before you get in the pool helps keep the chlorine from damaging your hair as much.

If you're talking about in a pool, you need a clarifying shampoo. The chlorine builds up in your hair and the clarifying shampoo helps the hair return to normal
Yes, a pool at our house. Today I put some argan oil in it before I got in the pool.
And I'm getting Japanese straightening done tomorrow so I won't be able to get it wet for a few days anyway but then I want to make sure it stays in decent shape afterwards.
I hadn't really thought of a swim cap but I guess I could consider it. I use Pureology Hydrate line. What clarifying shampoo would I use?

My stylists have always told me to wet my hair completely before going in chlorine or saltwater. By getting your hair wet before going in the water, it mostly absorbs the clean water and keeps chlorine or saltwater absorption to a minimum along with damage. I always do this at the minimum. I usually take it a step further by thoroughly coating my hair in a sulfate free heavy conditioner or a layer of coconut oil. That adds another layer of protection. If I'm getting in and out of the water, I make sure to get my hair wet again by keeping a spray bottle of water at the pool or beach and i add a little more conditioner.
Also, I use a UV protection spray to keep sun damage to a minimum. Alterna has some great products and Joico has done some in the past too. When my hair is mostly dry, I will wear a sun hat for protection out of the water. A lot of the UV products are seasonal at Ulta or Sephora. I'm always very careful since we have a pool and spend a lot of time there.
