So I am still with the original IUD, which is too high up so the doctor can't get the strings. I assumed she would just crank my cervix open to fish it out, but apparently I was wrong. So in a month from today, I am booked for an ultrasound to check placement, then I have to go to a gynecologist (which for the amount my city has, are quite hard to get in to), who will have to do the removal and insertion. This is a huge pain, time wise. I mean right now I am not working, so no big deal, but I am hoping to have a job within the next month! Note to self, if your strings are starting to get shorter, don't let them disappear!
wineenthusiast - I only checked the strings 3 times, and on the 3rd time, they were gone. I went to the doctor and she said it was still in place, but just really high.

Oh my, I'm so sorry they weren't able to fix it at the appointment yesterday. I hope you can get in wiht a gyno soon after the ultrasound so you can get it resolved. Did they say there was any reason to be concerned about it's effectiveness since it's changed positions? That stinks, latte. I'm sure if you find a job that they will allow doctor absences, so hopefully that's not going to be another big concern while you are dealing with this.
She didn't say anything about it's effectiveness due to placement, just due to the spotting she thought it might be running out of medicine. She is also becoming more scatter brained though, so I am hoping I can find a new doctor if/when a new one comes to town.

yikes, best of luck that the waiting period is not long. I hope you can get in quickly with someone who puts your concerns at ease. Good health vibes sent to you!

Was the doctor that did the initial insertion not a gynecologist? I know some people see an internist or family medicine doc but I would have assumed only a gyn would do the insertion of an IUD. I hope you can get into one soon! Maybe if you explain the situation someone will fit you in sooner rather than later. And I guess I'd better start checking for my strings... :/

No, the regular GP's do your annual check and my doctor does IUD insertion, but here it depends on the doctor. 2 of my friends had their IUD inserted at the gyn since their doctor wouldn't do it. Basically here you only go to the gyn for problems with your reproductive system (not related to fertility), or if you are having a baby and your doctor doesn't deliver.
I am going to try and get an appointment for the day after my ultrasound. And I am on the cancellation list for the ultrasound clinic. I am hoping for a cancellation, so we shall see!
My gyno intentionally cut the strings short so I (MH) can't feel them.
Same here, except then my IUD moved to the top of my uterus, so the strings aren't coming out of the cervix anymore, so she can't get to them. I just figure by going to a gyn now, I am sure they are a lot more experienced with getting things out of there

Mine aren't through my cervix either; my Dr. said she could either "tuck them up" or cut them short so that they couldn't be felt. I hope you can get an appointment soon!
Oh Crazy! I had no idea that would happen. Granted, my doctor doesn't seem to be the brightest thing at the clinic lately, so really, this isn't a surprise.
