When I finally hit the last week of C25k I was very disappointed to realize that 30 min. was not a 5k for me, either. In fact I still haven't run a 5k in 30 min! But whatever, it's still badass!
I started running in the park and there were a lot more people than normal and then I noticed numbers and then I thought, Hey! I'm running in a 5k! But, of course, I didn't start at the beginning and I had to keep on going when they got to stop and it was very sad.
Now tell me, what are you doing with those fancy new shoes you bought? Am I alone in this?
NO, of course not! I have been walking here and there, although I have yet to really be able to get on a schedule... I'm actually thinking about getting up earlier and doing it in the mornings. I have a route around my neighborhood already figured out and it's about 3 miles total. All my prep work is done, I just have to motivate my ass outta bed first thing in the morning.
In the meantime, DS has really taken to riding his bike lately and as long as the weather cooperates, we go on little outings where I walk and he rides his bike. Occasionally throughout our outing we have races, so I get a fair amount of jogging in too. It's just not consistent exercise yet.
Don't worry about a 30-minute 5k when you do a formal one. I got to week 8 on c25k and ran it in 38 minutes and change. I think 35-40 minutes for your first one would be awesome. And this program is less set on time and more about endurance, anyway.
I haven't been around in a while, but wanted to say woo hoo!
I am in week 5 of the c25k and am amazed at how far I have come. And also scared of what is next. You'll be my inspiration!
Good luck!
I'm on week 7 and it is looking like I will be here for a little while. There are no more walking breaks, so I just time myself on a stopwatch now.
doglove, I know that timing is not everything. Brad keeps pushing encouraging me to sign up for a 5k now and I know that I am still not close to being able to finish one (running all the way) and that is a little frustrating.
starrieskies- Let these guys motivate you if you need it. They are amazing. Really.

I am not planning to run a 5k, I just want to do this to be healthier and in shape. So don't feel bad about not wanting to.
I am scared of the no walking breaks, and it looks like its coming up soon. Do you have the app? I am loving it - it does all the timing for you, and is free.
What's sad us that I used to be a hard core (5-10 miles/day) runner, and it's such a challenge for me now. But I am remembering why I loved to run again.
Week 5 day 3 is the first no walking day. You can do it!
There are only 2 more days with walking breaks after that and then it's all about adding more time to your run. If you need any encouragement, this is definitely the place to come.

Ok. I'm writing this here so you all can hold me accountable!!!
Monday morning, I am getting out of bed early, and doing my walk/run. I will start at approximately 5:30 am with a goal of finishing by 6:15 so I can be home before H leaves for work. I will continue to do this daily (alternating walking/running days) so I don't get lazy and hit the snooze button. I don't have the C25K program downloaded yet, but I will get something by then.
Muddled, I just finished week 5 d1 yesterday and it went better than I thought, so I think I'll be okay on day 3, even if I want to die during. . I might keep popping in for encouragement, because I can see its great over here!
