I'm so sorry. I would freak if I saw a snake! I have a friend & their house backs to a field/stream and they have so many snakes in their yard that can't use it. They are confined to the deck. Sorry, that's not really what you need to hear right now. But I will give a helpful suggestion.... can you get predator of snakes to put in your yard? Like a fake owl or hawk? Do you think that would scare them away?
We had at least 2 snakes living in our yard a few months ago, but I haven't seen them in a while. I'm pretty sure our dogs killed them. So, maybe you could get one of those?
Sorry, that wasn't helpful. You can buy snake repellant on Amazon--maybe give that a shot? I hate snakes too.
I hate snakes; I'm deathly afraid of them and I can't even handle seeing a picture of one or one on TV, so I feel your pain.
I would suggest some sort of snake repellent like the PP or I liked the idea of cutting down the weeds before you pull. If that doesn't work, then I'd use the round up.

We had a snake living in the large bush right beside our house.....I actually think he lived under the concrete steps. I hated using the front door because I was afraid he would be out sunning himself. I used to see him sticking his head up. Anyway, our neighbor suggested mothballs because snakes don't like them and will leave. I spread a ton in the bush and where I though his den was and we haven't seen him since. I really think he is gone. Maybe try the mothballs around the big rocks.

You know, in the two+ years we've lived here, I've only ever seen one snake, and it was just a king snake - but I am terrified that at some point Dot will find a rattler in the yard and piss it off. I am not afraid of snakes. But I am freaking petrified of losing the dog to a rattlesnake bite.
ETA: As regards tips ... they just recommend around here to avoid piles of anything, especially rocks or bricks, and high grass/weeds. Apparently there's not much else you can do to prevent snake access.
What color was it? Was it's nose pointy or stubby?
Chances are it's a good snake that will eat the rodents around your house. Unless you have chickens, then it will eat your eggs.
Lol. If you think I stood around long enough to notice, you grossly underestimated my snake phobia. It was black with a yellow stripe and I took the eff off when I figured out what I saw. It's likely a garter snake, that's really all we have around here. It didn't look big enough to eat rodents and I'm not scared of rodents anyway. Lol. I'd much rather see mice or even a rat. I can handle those (if they were in the house, my cat would get them. Outside the house, neighbor cat would get them) I just effing hate snakes.
Anyway, it's time for some new wellies so I can feel more brave about where I step. Old ones got a huge crack. I may have to hit up tractor supply this time.
LOL I'm imagining your avatar in wellies dancing and jumping.

There's was a gardener snake in one of my strawberry beds yesterday. My sister spotted it and sent me back in the house. I'm buying all the mothballs in the world today.
