And we will be adopting both my granddaughters. The trial was supposed to start today but DD2 spoke with her lawyer and decided to sign for termination. Kiddo's sister Kidlet will be staying with us permanently. We're now on our way to being the proud parents of my granddaughters. Grandmommy and Granddaddy.

Thank you everyone. We're excited. And honestly a bit scared. The girls have some stuff we need to deal with (and have been). And now all these additional expenses (college, braces, some medical issues, all that fun stuff) on top of trying to get a handle on retirement for us.
@amoosed - they're 7 and 9 (8 and 10 in November. Busy season for us now between Halloween, birthday #1, Thanksgiving, birthday #2, birthday for GS, Christmas...)
The older one lived with me and DH from when she was 6 months until she was 5 1/2 years old. The court in WA didn't recognize our OH guardianship (it was guardianship rather than custody) and said we'd have to start the process in WA, with no likelihood of success per every attorney we spoke with. She moved back in with her mom just before kindergarten, back with us for the first half of second grade via CPS, back with her mom (CPS again, mom can't learn to be a mom without a kid) and back with us permanently last summer at mom's and her request. Mom knew she couldn't handle two but thought she'd be able to fight to retain one. We were adopting GD1 but mom wasn't willing to terminate her younger sister (GD2) since she'd had her since birth. CPS placed GD2 with us about four weeks after GD1 moved back in with us. Termination was approved yesterday so now she knows she'll be staying with us permanently which was a question with her for a very long time. She had no idea and lots of questions as to where she was going to belong. "Sister" was staying but she was going back to mom, going to a different school, moving to Oregon - she had no idea what her future held until Sunday when we and her GAL gave her the news. Happily, both girls are thrilled and excited. So are we.
