My garden is doing great... except an elephant went stomping through it sometime in the past 48 hours!! What the heck!
Poor basil... I had to dig a few of them out of the holes and replant them.
Zucchini and Yellow Squash
Scallions, Parsley, Cucumbers and Green Beans. For some reason my cukes aren't coming up very well this year. I have no idea why! Of course, the craters don't help any...
Our house came with two 3 foot by 15 foot raised beds, so I was *forced* to try gardening This is my fourth summer. I planted 21 tomato plants this year. There are a few in the "basil" picture -- the tall plants next to the green posts.
Strawberries are in a dirt patch next to the porch. We planted them 3 years ago and haven't touched them since, other than to weed the area a bit. They send runners out and spread on their own each year. Apparently they don't need much nourishment. I will warn you though... critters eat half of them, so we only get a handful ourselves each year!
Confession: I map my garden out in an excel spreadsheet every year... I am the biggest geek ever :-D
Nice! I am so jealous of your strawberries. Did you start them from seeds or buy seedlings? I have been keeping an eye out for some but haven't seen them anywhere. How much sun do they need?
We planted a ton of stuff in containers this year in addition to our garden bed. The only problem: we forgot that the containers didn't have drainage holes in the bottom. Our poor plants are swimming in mud right now after all the rain we've had in the past week. I hope they make it.

This is an impressive garden. I would love to start gardening and doing vegetables but we have a lot of animals in the neighborhood and I feel like I would just feed them all summer.
We have no idea what walked through the garden. It's a raised bed, so it's ~2 feet up! My best guess would be a neighborhood dog that got loose. Our neighbors are usually really good about their dogs though and its very rare to see one without its owner (and usually the owner is running around trying to find their pet!)
We bought the strawberries as seedlings from a local farm stand/nursery. They were kinda expensive (~$7 for a 6-pack), but you can also buy packs of 25 from an online store for $5 + shipping (for example, www.groworganic.com/rpk-strawberry-eversweet-1-lb.html ). I don't know if those are roots balls or actual plants though. Ours get a decent amount of sun, but I really don't know what is "best". We just planted them and hoped that would stick around! lol
