Haha. I read the title & said, "Nope! No, no, no!" Lol Who am I kidding though. It was 92* when I ran bridges at 6PM yesterday, & the heat index was 104 today (I did NOT run in that.) Lol I'm going to have to suck it up & power through. Nice job!

Ha yeah. This is going to be a super fun training cycle! There's going to be a lot of "what the hell was I thinking" on this end of things.
And thanks guys. Nice job to everyone getting out there in the heat.

But come October y'all will FLY!!! I love running in the fall.

This is what I'm counting on. I know Chicago race day weather is a gamble, but I am certain it cannot match the brutality of a FL summer. Even if it IS hot on race day, it will feel so much better than the heat & humidity I will train in.

I had a lot of those thoughts last summer. Speedwork from June through mid August suuuucked because I had to go off my effort, not the pace on my Garmin (because I physically could not handle race pace or faster at the temps/humidity we had). It worked though, because I nailed a roughly 4 min HM PR and finally got my elusive sub 1:50 at my October HM. It had me all excited to try for sub 1:45...and then I found out I was pg a month later. So maybe next year

Yeah, ditto for Texas. There's just no way it can compare.

see, I don't really think Chicago race day weather is a gamble. at least not any more than any other marathon. yeah, there's been a couple of years where it was hot, and now everyone's all 'chicago's so HOT.' like literally. people have said that to me.
but really, in the past 15 years the high temperature in Chicago on 10/13 has never exceeded 80 degrees. mean and median high temps for that day are 64. last year, the high on race day didn't crack 60 and that was following a v. hot summer.
When I ran Chicago in 08, I think the heat index surpassed 85-90 degrees. In 09, it was freaking COLD. Either way, it won't compare to summer weather down south Good work!

I agree, and the bolded point has been annoying the crap out of me. Everyone has been saying, "OMG, do you remember that time 5 or 6 years ago???Chicago is HOT!" Listen, the average high in October is mid 60's to upper 50's. Of course it CAN be hot, just like it COULD randomly be cold here in FL in June, but it probably won't be. I also think there are some people who need it to be in the 50's. They think 60's is hot. For them? Sure, it's a gamble. I won't bat an eye at 80* or lower, so I feel pretty good about my odds, weather wise, on race day. Should the odds not be in my favor, I think I'll still be OK.

and it was hot in Boston in 12. and in NY in 11. not sure why chicago is getting this 'hot marathon' rap.
anyway, sorry to threadjack OP. way to kick some ass on your tempo. I came in here to give you permission to take it easy and then I saw all the chicago chatter and tots derailed your props.

Nah no problem! I love the discussion and completely agree re: Chicago being a hot marathon. It seems like an undeserved reputation.

Nice work! Posts like this give me the kick in the pants I need to get out in the heat this summer to get my training runs done. I can only hope they'll help me in October. That is, if it ever stops raining and gets above 70 around here.
