Buy a refurbished one on Apple.com. That's what I did. They are seriously brand new. Not a single scratch or anything. They test them and if the screen has a scratch for example, they put a brand new one. So yeah, you couldn't tell the difference.
Oh, I'll also add, I bought one from them a few years ago for my DD and the screen was cracked when we got it and they replaced it without question. I was really impressed with their customer service. I think they have a 30 day warranty on their refurbished products.
nope, the warranty on refurbished products is 1 year. They have awesome customer service too. I put my refurbished nano in the washing machine (I know warranty shouldn't work) and in less than a week I had a brand new Nano.

Agreed that Apple has awesome customer service. While not an iPod, I bought an iPhone from Sprint and took it into an Apple store when it started acting up. They replaced it on the spot, no questions asked. I didn't even have to show them a receipt or anything.
