I'm reading Beautiful Chaos, it's ok. It's a no-brainer. H just finished Dante's Inferno so now I can go back to that. Is Beautiful Chaos a beach read? Seems pretty fluffy for me.
No book related gifts for Dad.
QOTW: I need some clarification on this - are we talking any of Jim Henson's creations or just the "traditional" muppets?
ETA:
traditional muppet - Gonzo Jim Henson's world - Jen from the Dark Crystal or Gobo from Fraggle Rock
I just started The Spice Necklace by Ann Vanderfhoof, which is nonfiction about food and travel in the Caribbean. I think that counts as beachy! Also reading another Enchanted Inc. ebook, No Quest for the Wicked. It is not the best in the series but still fun.
QOTW: Only one?? That's tough! I think maybe Gonzo.
I'm reading Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Surprisingly good. I'll be on a plane in the next few days, so I'll have time to read.
QOTW: Either Red Fraggle or Sweetums. And I say that because when I was about 3 years old I was scared to death of Sweetums and had a horrible dream he was living in my closet and came out to get me, so every night I would make sure I was completely covered in blankets so he couldn't find me. I need reassurance.
I'm reading The Scent of Rain by Kristen Billerbeck and listening to The Highlander's Touch by Karen Marie Moning. I doubt I'll make it to a beach this weekend (weather isn't going to be conducive to lake time), but they're both fluffy enough for it.
Is it horrible that I can't really remember any Muppets other than Kermit, Miss Piggy, and Gonzo? Does Big Bird count? Because I would totally pick Big Bird.
I'm reading Hellhound on his Trail by Hampton Sides. It is the story of the days leading up to MLK Jr's assassination and the manhunt for his assassin. It is really, really interesting. I live in Memphis & work just blocks from the Lorraine Motel--and actually, this week has been super slow, so I've been reading the book at work. A lot of the action took place right around here! I wouldn't say this is a "beach read" but it is very entertaining.
Next up is my book club read--The Shadow of the Wind. I hope I like it. We have a long car ride next weekend, so I will be taking it with me.

I'm reading NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children, which I'm pretty sure doesn't qualify as a beach read. We're discussing it on MMM later this month.
I don't know what I'm getting my dad yet, but H only requested to watch Game 5 of the NBA Finals, so I'm getting off easy for Father's Day.

I'm still reading The Brothers Karamasov. Less than 200 pages to go.
Does Christopher Moore count as beachy? I also read You Suck: A Love Story this week. He writes light, zany novels. It was fun, but that's all I'd say about it.
QOTW: I'd say, Kermit, but I was never really into the muppets.

I'm not actually reading anything today (yet). Just got notified from my library that Dark Places is available, so I'll be starting that soon. This week I started and finished Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness by Susannah Cahalen. It was fascinating.
Are you reading anything beach-read-ish? Nope
Do you have any exciting plans for this weekend? Nope- mowing the lawn, staining the bathroom vanity, baking a cake I wouldn't call it "exciting" but we are going to dinner for my dad's 60th bday tomorrow so that will be nice. Making the rounds on Father's Day.
Any book-related gifts planned for Dad? Nope
QOTW: If you could meet one Muppet, which one would it be? Animal

I'm reading Away with the Fairies, and it counts as beach read to me -- but I rarely read bestsellers or romance novels, so my definition may be looser than the book industry's.
It's not Father's Day until September in Australia, so I have time to worry about what to do for FIL. My parents do not celebrate Mother's/Father's Day, so I'm not doing anything for my Dad (at his specific request).
QOTW: I'm having a hard time picking between Kermit and Grover, but then I love Janice too. But I think I'd have to go with Grover.
I meant any of the creatures to come from the Jim Henson Workshops -- including the creatures from Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock, any of the movies, Emmett Otter's Jug-Band Christmas, etc.

That made the QOTW easier. I love Emmett Otter. I watch every Christmas!
As for what I am reading, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, for my book club. It is a graphic novel of the author's childhood in Iran. It is interesting and a quick read.
I have put The Happiness Project on hold for a bit, but I have been enjoying it.
Today we have a few errands and then a wedding (DH's coworker). No book themed gifts for Father's Day - making my parents dinner - straight meat and potatoes, no surprises, nothing fancy, that will make dad happy!
I'm actually at the beach this weekend. I'm reading looking for Alaska but since it's a hardback library book, I'm not actually reading it on the beach, I'm going to read it at the rental when my little one is asleep. And there's a ton of paperbacks here at the rental so if one strikes my fancy, I might pick it up.
I also have tell the wolves I'm home and game of thrones in my kindle so I might read those on the beach, we'll see.
