This is so embarrassing. Our company is celebrating a new office in Spain. Our office managers (and I'm guessing HR) planned a "Spanish themed brunch" and on the invite is says, featuring piñatas and Spanish themed food. Then, as a reminder (they always do a trinket) we got mini maracas.

Do you live in one of those parts of the country where it is customary to refer to Hispanic persons of Latin American origin as "Spanish"? Because I know that's a thing in some, more, shall we say, diversifically challenged regions. Perhaps that is fueling some of this highly amusing confusion.

No. And our CEO is Spanish (from Spain). I would think there would be more research. I think it's either sheet idiocy, or lack of enough actual Spanish decorations that led them down this path.
Well I wish your new office was in Mexico that would be perfect.
When I think of Spanish food I think of Tapas, Jamon, Spicy roasted potatoes with aioli, Crusty bread with tomato, gazpacho. I love Spanish food and cook it often at home.

I love this so much. I would aim for Basque food if I was in charge. Basque food makes my heart go pitter patter. I am not in charge though so I think I will sit here with my feet up, drinking coffee and gigglesnorting.
