If you eat animals, someone killed it. I've never known anyone who didn't eat/use what they killed. We eat any meat that he hunts. I stockpile venison to use throughout the year, and we eat whatever fish he brings in. He also hunts turkey, which we also eat. I even know a guy who hunts squirrels and eats them. I find it gross, but to each his own.
The reason I don't have many details is because he is at work and wasn't able to talk long. I know what I do know from a coworker's son going last year.
:Y: This I didn't know. We eat and store venison that D's Step-Dad hunts; I'm not against hunting for food or use.
Well, whatever gets the job done, I suppose. They are going to have to do something with the carcass because you have to file a report about your "harvest".
I don't mean to argue with you; I know you love all animals and don't want them killed for sport. I just don't think it's that big of a deal, regardless of the individual motivation. They are not hunting puppies, they are hunting an animal that poses a danger to people, including the hunters themselves (which is why Ride has a point).
Oh, I'm anti-hunting, hence my initial disclaimer. And I shouldn't have said "we" when I mentioned M's fishing b/c I personally haven't had anything that he's caught (fishing in NM is practically impossible, so he goes in Ohio when he visits his dad). Like I said earlier, I eat meat, I wear leather...I know where it comes from. There's just something about going out and killing something yourself that skeeves me out.
I'm not making any sense. I 100% see where you're coming from, I'm just not sure that it's rational. But since I feel the same way, I'm irrational too....I just don't get the hardcore judging that's going down over this.
I'm more "okay" with eating an animal that's been hunted than factory farmed, now that I think about it. My FIL sits out in a tree stand in 30 degree weather with a bow and arrow to lug a 100# deer home, which seems more...natural? than the little styrofoam tray of ground up cow that's lived its whole life in a shed and is then zapped in the head.
Then again, I grew up vegan so I'm kinda new to this.

I think hunting is probably more humane than factory killing.
I also no longer go hunting. It's boring and I would probably cry if I witnessed the killing. But I love having the meat. I know how to skin a deer and fish, although I still haven't learned how to do turkeys.
