We always talk about "nest trashy" vs. "real life" and decor stuff you just can't stand.
However, is there something/idea/concept you used to hate but now have/come to love?
Here are mine:
Photo walls. At first I thought they were the dumbest most clutter filled things ever. Now I have one. A big one. And it looks great. It's so fun to see our life progress in a loose timeline basically. I also hate picture frames and clutter everywhere but love pictures, so it's a great way to put it all in one place where I can see.
The white/gray/glass/mercury glass look. First I thought it was too tame for me, now our master area is leaning that way heavily. It's so calm and relaxing. Granted I have some bright striped bedding currently so it's more "me" but I love it all the same.
White kitchen cabinets. I still probably wouldn't do it in my house, but the idea of it has worn me down. I don't hate it anymore.
I have white cabinets. I thought I liked them... until I had to keep my own clean. I love the way they look, but hate the upkeep. Maybe it's just me, but my husband can get grease, ketchup, beer--anything really--all over the front of those damn cabinets. I swear, he just dunks his fingers in sauces before touching the cabinets just to spite me.

LOL. It's why I prefer the wood-look cabinets anyday. I dont' mind white in other people's house, but one window left open in this place on a windy day and it's all over. There's also 5 people in and out of my kitchen on any given day. None of which are the best at cleaning up. I don't even want to imagine. I'm fully aware my wood cabinets have the same amount of slime on them, but at least I can't see it..ha.

Lol.
I hate the idea of white kitchens for much the same reason as dairy, but I feel like I'm doomed to go in that direction. I have learned (through a series of different kitchens in houses we've lived in, none of which I picked out) that Calvin will clean up after himself if the kitchen is white and the mess is obvious. However, put him in a kitchen with countertops like these:
and coffee grounds, crumbs, etc. will stay on the counter for days. Weeks. It's awful, and drives me batty. So I have to pick: high maintenance white kitchen that he'll participate in the maintenance of, or a lower maintenance kitchen where I'll be on my own (he's not going to change). That is a tough decision. We're not redoing ours any time soon though so I can keep debating.

I agree with this. Our house in Missouri had white. I am so glad we don't have white anymore. They are a PITA to keep clean. Never again.
