I need to replace 2 toilets in my house b/c they are too low and my dad is disabled. I know I need to get a toilet that has a bowl height of 17-19". I found a few at Lowes/Menards for about $150. I just talked to a plumber who told me I shouldn't buy a toilet from either of these places b/c they only carry cheap brands that don't flush well. He wants me to buy a $300 Kohler. I was really hoping that this toilet upgrade wasn't going to cost me a ton of $. So.... do I really need buy a more expensive toilet?
It's $230, but I think we got it on sale for like ... $160? (If you watch carefully, you can get some real deals on toilets). I hated it because it was too tall for me (short legs) but R thought it was fantastic. My parents liked it too.
We had an American Standard toilet at our other house that replaced the horrible builder basic model, and we were happy enough with it that we got one to replace the water wasting, (but bad flushing) toilet in this house.
Ours is dual flush. We considered getting a pricier one to replace the one in the main bathroom, but we may just get the same model for that bathroom, since it seems to work really well.

OMG.
This house came with AS Plebes. The worst toilets ever. They ran constantly. My life was devoted to swapping out their innards. So happy they're out of here.

We had that one too, and were wary of trying AS because of that. We decided to chance it on a better model that fit the budget and were pleasantly surprised. We could have replaced all of the toilets in that house with the money spent on replacement innards over the years...we should have done it sooner.
