MH and I have fundamental disagreements on everything H&G the appropriate scale of things to hang on various walls in our house.
Which means that for the most part, there isn't anything hanging on our walls. One of only two rooms in the house that does have stuff hanging on the walls I had to just pull 9 months pregnant veto and tell him to get the damn things hung.
these:
He thinks they're too crowded/close together. But there was a point to having them clustered like that - I wanted them to be presented as one piece. I'd have put them in a single three opening frame if I could have found one. He wanted to hang two here and the third somewhere else in the room. Was I crazy? would they have looked better spaced out?
ANYWAY. So now I'd really like to get something on the walls elsewhere in the house.
These wall in particular. Above the mantle (which usually has little to no "styling" and I like it that way) and above our sideboard/entry table (which actually stuff on it now, but I don't have a picture. A simple black lamp, table top frames and a couple of knicknacks. nothing big except the lamp I guess). the closet will eventually have a door and the mantle itself will eventually be replaced (along with the hearth) but the scale won't change.
One big piece above the mantle and a couple of medium sized things or Gallery wall above the side board? Leave above the sideboard alone and just do something above the mantle?
Would you aim for something on any of the other walls? these two pictures pretty much cover the whole room.
Above the mantle is a perfect place for a great piece of art or striking mirror. I think a brightly colored vertical piece would be great in between the two doors. If you want a gallery wall, the area above the sideboard is the perfect place. I put a gallery wall in our hallway because I couldn't figure out what to do with that space.
Agree with pp. obviously you are totally right to group the nursery art. I'd do a gallery wall with medium-large sized frames above the sideboard and a large mirror or piece of art above thd mantel.
