So my kid has decided he won't eat from a spoon anymore. He'll feed himself little chunks of food or demolish one of those pouches at meal time, but they're all fairly harmless fruits and veggies. I'm struggling to get him enough iron, I think.
How can I get more nutrients in this kiddo? Where can I look for ideas? I've started relying on pouches for most meals because they're so damn easy, but he's waking in the night hungry (which is new) so I need something that will fill him up more.
At this age, food is a complete sensory experience. That's how babies experience the world and learn. Let him be messy. At 7 months its not about table manners and using the spoon. It's about touch, taste, texture, smell, color and squish. Skip the plate, put the food on the tray in front of him and leave him to it. Some may get into his mouth. Make it a fun experience. Let him see YOU eat some. Encourage a spoonful or two.
Change his shirt after the meal. Wipe everything down. Invest in paper towels. You'll have a wonder eater.
