I got the Target Brand Up and Up spray in 70 for my H. He's very fair skinned. It works well for him. I use Australian Gold in 15 for me since I tan so well.
Do not use the banana boat sport spray in the orange can. It turned my H's shirt green and did not come out in the wash.
I've never used a spray because I've always had this weird idea that they don't work as well. I'm not sure why I think that, though. Have you ever noticed that you miss spots or that it isn't as thorough as regular sunscreen?
Thus, I wear cover-ups and hats and stay in the shade when possible.
Well, yeah, but sometimes sun is unavoidable. H and I have camping and fishing plans this summer, and the sun is pretty unavoidable when you're at a lake, even with a hat, cover-ups, and staying in the shade as much as possible. I want to do everything I can to never have this happen again, but I can't live my entire life never going out in the sun for more than five minutes at a time.

Neutrogena Dry Touch on my body and an Aveeno for face on my face. I'm very fair. I really a lot. I use lotion before I leave the house and then reapply almost hourly with a spray outside the house.
Honestly, you should see a dermatologist, before returning to outdoor activities. If you have skin damage, it can take a long time to heal.
They already told me that it will probably take three-five weeks to heal, so I've got three more weeks before I'm planning on having any outside adventure time, even with cover-ups and sunscreen. However, I have a dog who needs outside time, and sunscreen recommendations are still going to be useful a month from now, when I'm ready to be going back outside.
I started this thread because of how many other people are posting about being out in the sunshine lately. I thought it would be useful for everyone, not just for me.

It is recommended that sprays only be used for re-application. Initial application is more thorough when lotion is used.
This is good to know. I hadn't heard that. Thank you.
for the face, I use La Roche Posay anthelios SPF 60 OR Neutrogena SPF 50 dry touch face sunscreen. For body sunscreen I am pretty open to brands, whatever is on sale...coppertone, hawaiian tropic, neutrogena, etc. I usually use between SPF 30 and 50.

Neutrogena Wet Skin 85 SPF. It was the best recommended for water sports and swimming by some magazine and I'm a sheep. You do have to be careful when applying it or it will be splotchy.
Hi pixie I'm taking a wound care/integumentary care class this summer. Considering the severity of your burn that you experienced earlier this month I would really, strongly, encourage you to take every precaution you can to keep yourself covered. Large hats, long sleeves and even sunscreen under that. It will suck while you are camping but even if your skin seems healed right now it's not back to it's full strength.
Anyways, just my two cents. I really hope that you try and stay out of the sun as much as possible. I think you are fair skinned like me and getting another burn, even a minor one so soon after your last would be very bad.
I use Banana Boat Sport SPF 45 (lotion in a tube, not the spray). You have to really lather on sunscreen at least 15 minutes before you go outside. Then you have to reapply a lot. I'd also look into some clothing with SPF to help you keep covered up this summer. I know it's a bummer, but you need to be really careful for more than just 3 weeks after your experience.

I already talked about this earlier in this thread.
I know that I'm not healed. I'm not planning to go back out into the sun anytime soon. I plan to cover up as much as possible when I do. However, I wouldn't think that a cover-up should mean I do not need to apply sunscreen, especially on areas such as my face, neck, hands, and feet. I'm surprised at how many of you seem to think that if I cover up I shouldn't need to ask for sunscreen recommendations.
Along with that, I am not the only person here who could appreciate sunscreen advice.

I'm sorry Pixie, I didn't mean to imply that you shouldn't be asking for sunscreen recommendations if that's what you took from my post. The point that I wanted to get across is just to be extra careful and to wear both sunscreen and long sleeves this summer because the integrity of your skin isn't what it was and won't be for several more months. I usually throw Zinc on my nose and then I've been using this all summer this year:

I also didn't mean that you should wear coverups alone - which is why I added the bit about wearing sunscreen under the coverup.

I like all varieties of Neutrogena spray. I find that I'm much more diligent about reapplication when I use a spray. I use the wet skin version on my daughter when we go to the pool, and she's never burned.

Simmer. No one is saying don't use sun screen. I even gave you the brand we use. I wasn't trying to gang up or make you feel worse about your situation.

Blue Lizard. Higher titanium dioxide and zinc oxide than a bunch of the other brands.
I burn badly to start, get sun allergy, am now on a bunch of meds that make me even more sensitive to sunlight. I used BL before, but it is also the one my oncologist likes.

I am simmered. I wasn't aiming at anyone in particular, but multiple people said the same thing even after I'd explained and I just don't want people to think that I'm taking this situation lightly, because I'm not. I am horribly, ridiculously embarrassed by how big of a deal this has become, and I plan to do everything in my power to avoid having this happen again, or if possible avoid even getting a slight burn again. I also want to help everyone else avoid what I'm currently dealing with by discussing sunscreen tactics.
I am very fair and burn easily. We use Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 45. I wear it when we are in Hawaii, Mexico, etc. and have never burned while using it (reapply every 2 hours). I was doubtful but it covers well. We haven't had good luck with other sprays.

If you are wearing flip flops, make sure to take them off when applying the sunblock. I made that mistake and had an awful burn right where my flip flop strap would be.
