I'm so proud of us. We've been working since march on our landscaping project (with lots of weekends off, of course). Today we put in the flagstone path and it's looking so good! I'll post full B&A pics when we are all finished- we still have another bed to plant, two trees to put in and some more planters to build and plant. But here's how our path came out!
Imagine the before image- this whole side of our yard was a sea of big river rocks. I nearly broke my ankle twice trying to pull the weeds that would find their way through, and it just looked baren and dead.
Looks awesome!!! How did you plan it out, and figure out how much flagstone you actually needed to purchase?
Well there wasn't much planning since we really just needed a path to that gate from the driveway. We approximated the area and talked to the guys at the masonry supply. They recommended 1.5" thich flagstone and said that a ton would cover roughly 100sq ft more or less. So we did the calculation and bought 1000 lbs at .18 per lb. we put down 2" of baserock and then sand, wetted it down and tamped it smooth. Then put the stone together like a puzzle.. you can see that we actually came up two stones shy so we'll need to go back to get a couple more stones, plus we still need more sand to fill in between.
