There was a post about securing dogs in cars, and one person said if you don't have room for a crate, then you shouldn't have dogs. That board has seriously gone nuts.

Well if I didn't get banned for defending the 3 year old in a Nautilus, then I definitely would've been banned about this. Dude, Joey sits in between the Nautilus and the MyRide and he loves it....typically because one if not more of the kids has some scrumptious food.

Sucks you hate your son AND your dog. No crate and a FF kid before 4. What kind of mother are you?
A horrible, horrible, horrible mother.
I remember picking Joey up off the canine railroad (he was a rescue from NBRAN and traveled to me). His crate didn't fit in my car and I wasn't able to move Kalvin out of the middle position so I just broke the crate down and put it in the trunk and Joey rode in the front seat with me the entire 80 mile trip. I did at least have him use a seat belt harness but the previous Britt had a much bigger chest and was entirely way to big. Poor Joey doesn't even have one that fits him. No wonder he jumps in the carseats, he just wants to be protected!
I would love to know how they would fit a crate and two carseats in my sedan. I still need to have that driver seat all the way back.
Our boxer has changed the gears as I've been driving. It's fun when you are in a high gear, going 40 something and he switches it to second. I try to keep him in the backso that won't happen, but I totally understand the safety issues with a dog being able to roam the car. His kennel won't fit in my SUV either, so we just deal with it.... We've takes a 550 mile trip each way with 3 dogs, a cat, dh, William and myself all in one car... yeah, crates were not an option.

There are grates you can get to put between the front seat and second row to keep that from happening. Downside is that it is a grate between the front and back of the car.
how would a crate be better than a dog harness that straps in? I would think that a crate would turn into a gigantic projectile and also not protect the dog inside of it at all from getting slammed around.

dh has one in his SUV and use his when we go on a long car trip at least.

Fuck, they'd hate us. Before A, Boomer and Bruce would ride all the way TN to PA and return in the backseat of my Kia Spectra on a blanket with pillows, lol. And when we got the Escape, they ride in the trunk, with blankets and pillows, no crates.
I'm not crating them for 14 fucking hours. The first trip I took Bruce, I crated him, and he peed about 70 times, pooped twice, and cried the whole.damn.way.
I'm an awful dog mom I guess. Do you have to RF the crate too?

When we've made the 10 hour drive to my MIL's, the dogs ride in the back seat with me or the roommate, depending on who's driving at the time.
Just in case there are those of you who don't want to be facebook friends with me (whatever!), I posted a picture of Dylan sleeping in the car and this is a comment from a friend:
"Ha! So cute! Glad to see you have the chest guard in the correct position:) "

Well, our Lilly resides in the trunk of of station wagon-like car when we go somewhere. They all can suck my balls. It's never enough for that board, and even I was side eyeing my friend for belittling the one woman who dared to mention that CSFTL is getting out of hand.
I was going to FFFC one time that my dog doesn't have a crate in the car but then I was worried about the flaming I would get. But yeah he doesn't. I keep thinking we really should do something about that but.. yeah. Laziness.
It's probably much worse because Ozzy is the size of a person. Could he kill us all in a crash because he's unrestrained?
