For your wee one?
Sophia took longer to transition to table food, but we have been purée free (except pouches) and that has been great! She gagged a ton, but seems to have outgrown that. She still is finicky with meats (except fish) but overall will try most things.
I get so bored and lost with lunch. She eats grilled cheese sandwiches, PB and jelly sandwiches, quesadillas, macaroni and cheese, and those Gerber pick-up pastas. What other kinds of sandwiches do your kids eat? Any lunch ideas? I feel like we are stuck in a rut. I am not a Food Angel, but I'm not completely care-free either. No allergies so far.
We do grilled cheese. She's not a lunchmeat fan by itself, but if I put it in a sandwich with a slice of cheese and some hummus, she will eat the whole thing. She liked grilled ham and cheese as well

Oooo, chicken salad! Good idea and that would be soft enough for her teething!! She loves eggs, so I've tried egg salad sandwiches, but she was meh about it. I love egg salad, how is that possible?!
She likes grilled cheese and pb & j, too. Sometimes I put turkey or ham in her grilled cheese and she will eat that. She liked chicken salad and hummus with sliced vegetables, which surprised me. I've done tortilla wraps cut into those little spirals with ham or turkey, spinach and cheese. She loves croissants so she'll eat almost any kind of sandwich I make for her if it's on a croissant..haha.
eewwww egg salad. Or anything with mayo. I hate mayo. But I'd give it to her.
I don't really give M sandwiches, except if it's grilled cheese because she doesn't hold stuff properly so it would just become cubes of bread, cheese/meat, and other things asap.
When I am home with her for lunch I might just give her random things like bits of cheese, fruit, slices of avocado, a couple of broccoli florets, yogurt. Sometimes I make her pasta with sauce, sometimes meatballs, sometimes I'll scramble eggs. she likes macaroni and cheese also. And toast with nut butter on it. Hummus or any sort of salsa/dip she likes, she'll dip veggies in it but then not eat the vegetable part usually.
If I'm lazy I have a bunch of these Sprout brand "organic butternut squash macaroni and cheese" baby food which isn't liquidy so I put blobs of it on her tray cold and she devours it.

Sometimes I'll baked a sliced ham and give her that in grilled cheese, and she does really well with that. Turkey and cheese is a hit too. Chicken salad is a good option I never thought of. I hate mayo, but I realized lately I have to start giving her things I don't like because it's not fair and she might like it. What about sauteed veggies until they're soft and hummus on bread or tortilla? Quesadilla with soft roasted sweet potatoes and black beans. Sometimes I'll even use peas as a spread on a sandwich, but she actually loves peas, so I give her those whole now too.
I'm afraid of peanut butter because we have a history, but there's lot of other options you could do with different fruit preserves to mix it up. Like almond butter, sunflower oil spread, apricot preserves, blackberry or raspberry spread. If she's good with PBJ, she might like swapping out different fruit for another.

Stupid question. What kind of bread do you use for sandwiches?
I feel like 2 peices of bread + lunchmeat + cheese = too big for her mouth.
I use 100% whole wheat, same as what we eat. PB and J isn't too big for S, but other sandwiches she will pull apart. I still cut her sandwiches up into smaller pieces
So many good ideas! I feel more inspired and refreshed. I could eat a sandwich everyday, so I always get stuck for a baby. We do lots of random bits of everything days as well.

Lucas will eat turkey sandwiches. He usually pulls it apart and eats the meat, then cheese, then bread. He actually shared a subway with me a few weeks ago

This is us too. Do your kids actually bite and chew the sandwiches?

I was going to ask the same thing. I have tried whole wheat and whole wheat pitas without much success.
I was excited at this post bc I don't know what the hell do give her, but now I just feel frustrated. I feel like she doesn't like anything and I suck at making things. It is a bad combo.

Sophia didn't bite and chew for a long time, we cut them up into bite sized pieces (pizza cutter! Also learned that trick on this board!). Anyway, about a week ago we cut her sandwich into four or eight pieces, and she would pick up a piece, bite/rip off a hunk, and then chew. We didn't realize she could do it until we tried. It took some practice with sandwiches, but she got it with practice.

Oh no, please don't think that! I made the post because I totally think *I* suck and I'm not creative AT ALL. I just don't have to time to make three elaborate meals a day (even on summer break, I don't want to!) S was on purées forever it seemed and I thought I totally sucked at introducing foods. S doesn't like some things as well, which makes planning hard. Most meats, even hidden, she will literally pluck them from her mouth or spit just the meat out. My pedi said most kids go through picky phases and it's totally normal for some foods to take multiple tries before kids will tolerate eating them.

Let me know what's successful for you. I am game to try anything!
Ok I have been like WTMF about this thread all day. Sandwiches?! You hand your kid a sandwich and they can eat it??
Then I realized my kid still only has TWO teeth. The two bottom front. That's probably the difference right?
This made me LOL! Sophia has 12 or 13 teeth! (I can't get in there close enough to see all the molars without getting bitten) So, yeah, she can totally bite and chew! Wow, only 2 teeth still?! You are missing out on super fun teething! Really though, if S had two teeth, I would be like WTF, too.

Hmmm I don't know, Lila only has 4 teeth (bottom two and top two) and seems to chew (gum) sandwiches pretty well, mostly in the back of her mouth where molars should be. I was surprised that she was able to chew it so well, but you never know! Try it kdrake8, she may surprise you!

Joke will be on me when I have a newborn and a teething toddler...
She got the two teeth in January and we've had zero activity since then! Nothing even on the horizon as far as I can tell!

I will try I give her bites of things and she does a good job chewing.... It just seems hard for her to bite off hunks of things (unless it's banana) bc of no top teeth
