I haven't been to a library since, like, middle school. I don't know how they work now! I have walked through one on the way to an event (once) and I guess you check out your own books now?! How does that work!
And I guess it will be cool to take my loud kids into the kid section of the library, right?

I love the library! Free books! Ours has a great ebook section that I use often. And yes, we have self check-out here.
As for the kids section, well, I say bring them, it's the kids section afterall. At the main library here the quite study area is faaaaar away from the kids area, and there's lots of toys and things for the littles.
Ours is still old school and you do need to take your books up to the main desk so she can scan them.
The kiddie area of our library is pretty good (puzzles and blocks), but I swear the lady who works in that section kinda gives me a stink eye if N even makes a peep. Screw you library lady.
I LOVE taking Adam, but whenever I take Nolan (aka: babyzilla), it is sooo stressful because he basically just bops around and pulls books of of the shelves, or squeals and bothers people.
I love libraries! Some have self-checkout, some have traditional lines, some print you a receipt when you return a book in the dropbox, some don't even have dropboxes... The library system here lets you reserve books online and emails you when they're ready.
We're going to toddler story hour this morning. There's a theme each week, like parts of the body, and all of the books and songs are about that.

Tomorrow and Thursday THE BUBBLE LADY is coming to one of the branches in our county! I should've looked earlier because there are FORTY NINE people on the waiting list.

I LOVE the library. I do it all online though. I find the books or movies I want and reserve them. They email or call me when they are in and I walk on down and pick them up.
I go to the Boston Public Library for myself bc it is huge and they are in a large network so there are tons of copies of all the books and movies.
Locally we go to story hour and move it for Kellen and puppet shows. He loves it. We rent cds for him there. Much smaller and a different network so less selection but the weekly events are awesome with a small town feel.

Libraries are kick ass. I still have to bring my books up to the front desk to check out. HOWEVER, you can go online and create an account and put stuff on reserve and hold and then just walk up the desk and they have them waiting for you. Everything from books, to audio-books, to shows, and movies. I am obsessed w my library in my new town.

mala, have you been to Finksburg or Westminster? And if so, do you have any "reviews" of which one I should take the girls to to just look at books? I'd assume Finksburg because it's new and probably has a bigger kid's section.

I reserve everything online and they email me when my holds are ready. Depending on your library network, expect a wait on newly released best sellers.
Ours has lots of story times and other fun things for kids. M is getting his own card this summer.

I've only been to Eldersburg, which I love. We go to storytime twice a week (this week is an off week though). B loves the library. At my library they are really forgiving of B and other kids being noisy, even in the main library and not the kids section. Westminster is the main branch for our county, so their selection of books is probably bigger, but like I said I haven't gone there yet.

1. They're still awesome. 2. You can get regular books, ebooks/kindle books, AND audio books! 3. The kids' section is still awesome, too. A lot of them around here have themed story times for different age groups.
We just went to the library last night!! The kids section at ours is small, but really nice! They had a little tent set up with play campfire stuff...Camden loved it!! I just do ebooks for my kindle. Its super easy. Go online, find the book, enter your library card #, and voila! A new free book!! But seriously, I just got a library card about a month ago, and hadn't been since middle school either. But really, its so fun!
