I'm a total recent lurker on this board but I do love to read, especially old classics and I thought this would be a good place to check out to get ideas for what to put on my list. I browsed through the all time favorite book thread and it got me thinking about a book I read a LONG time ago that I loved and want to read again. The problem is I hardly remember anything about it (except liking it!).
If I remember correctly, it wasn't a very long book and it was about a WWII pilot from the Midwest who ended up falling in love, and I think marrying, a Japanese woman, who may have been a geisha? Or some sort of actress or something? I think it was written in the first person as the pilot speaking, or at least his was the main perspective. I also think she couldn't speak English at first so they couldn't communicate through words.
I was a lot younger then when I read it but I remember it being very touching and romantic. Any help would be so appreciated, I've tried Googling and so far nothing is coming up...

I should add that most of the details are probably super fuzzy, I probably read this over 10 years ago. But the main gist of the story was an American pilot falling in love and marrying a foreign woman during WWII. As if there's only one book like that ever writeen...*sigh*.
I think it might be Sayonara by James A. Michener!!! I kept googling different things and his "Tales of the South Pacific" and "Return to Paradise" came up and something about them rang a bell.
This really sounds like it may be it, THANK YOU sooooo much!
