that when my kids play dolls they always have a mom and a dad.
RB got a dollhouse for x-mas and I specifically got 2 sets of people so she can have any type of family she wanted (2 moms, 2 dads, sister wives ...). But without fail, if she's playing on her own w/o direction or input from me, there will be a mommy and a daddy. Sprout does this too. It makes me a little sad.
I hear you. Hen is super into "mommies and daddies" right now. I know it's a million percent normal and totally no big deal, but it gives me a twinge of sad from time to time.
JB went through a phase of calling all men "dada". It made sense though because the only men she sees on a regular basis are the dadas at daycare and the dads of her friends. She doesn't really play house yet so it will be interesting to see what happens.
One book we read has two parent birds and a baby bird. It doesn't use any words to describe the birds but I will ask her where the mama bird is and she'll point to one. If I ask her where the dada bird is she doesn't point to anything.

Interesting. We haven't experienced that in play, but he did have a very short period when he called my wife Daddy. It didn't last long though, and he only actually did it a few times even during that time.

I think we will always get twinges about stuff.
My kids are from my het marriage and they love my GF, but I still will get questions from time to time.
We have friends (women) who have two kids and their one mom dresses more like a dude...short hair and stuff. Their son went thru a phase where she' d pick him up from daycare and he'd say "hi dad"....she felt like shit. She told him it hurt her feelings but he was so innocent and he was just seeing all the othe dads and stuff.
On the flip side our other friends (guys) just adopted a little girl who screams when a woman holds her. We thinks she just isn't used to the boobs lol

If my child calls me "dad" I will die. It is horrible to say, but I am a very feminine girl and fought to be this way against a mother who was a hippie. So, being referred to as a man in any way shape or form would be like a kick in the teeth. I probably need to work on that.
