I am a food cutting Nazi still. I need to start branching out and at least let her try crackers. She isn't the greatest at taking bites, but I think my knife skills improve exponentially with each kid. Once she gets more teeth I will get better, I'm sure. Amazingly Claire eats like a normal 4 year old (besides the grapes that I still cut in half) so I know Charlotte will get there too.
we cut a lot of stuff still. I let him eat the banana whole and blueberries but I cut grapes and chicken and cheese (not cheese sticks though). I cut most of his fruit up. He just shoves fist fulls in his mouth though so not sure why I bother most of the time.

I cut stuff up into holdable chunks for him, but that's about it. We don't do grapes at all, because I'm a paranoid freak.
Ironically enough, I've been giving him entire gummy bears to eat. He saw H having some one day and wanted one, too, so I bit the head off and gave it to him. I eventually gave him a whole one and was pretty much, "You dial 9-1, then when I say so, dial 1 again!" But he did fine. I was eating some while I was nursing him this afternoon, forgetting that he KNOWS ABOUT THE GUMMY BEARS, and he stopped nursing and stole them out of my hand.
Yup, I cut most of it. But I do give whole crackers, as long as there's a cup of water nearby. If she starts gagging, I'll offer her the water so she can rinse her mouth out (and invariably backwash a whole bunch of cracker bits into the glass).
Still cutting here, but I've been trying big stuff. She does well if its something way to big for her mouth: an apple, half of a bagel, etc. She will hold it and take tiny bites. Something like an orange wedge however, she will stuff the entire thing in her mouth. So I cut/tear almost everything still.
I sent some grapes to my mom's yesterday and cut them in 1/4ths. lol. Then my mom said she cut them some more before giving them to her.
eta: charlielove, I posted this before seeing your 1/8 post. ha.
I choked on a grape as a toddler.
Too funny! But scary that you choked on a grape. How old were you? I am so paranoid about choking, and grapes make me the most paranoid of all. I'll probably cut them until they go to college.
I am! Violet throws her food often and I'd rather her throw an itty bitty piece.
This . I'll give him whole crackers, but I cut up sandwiches and fruit and stuff and I only give him a couple pieces at a time or he throws everything on the floor while he's chewing between bites.
Still cutting here. I think we had a breakthrough moment this morning with the biting concept, though! I gave him a big chunk of banana, he tried to shove it all in his mouth and then backed off and took a bite. He realized he was biting off more than he could chew.

I cut EVERYTHING! I'm soooo nervous. DH gave X half an apple the other day, it was peeled and cored but still. I sat on the edge of my seat the entire time watching X take bites of it. He bit off a big piece and tried to swallow it whole, he gagged and spit it out, I freaked out and took the apple away. It makes me SO nervous. He doens't chew, he just swallows everything whole.
Yes I cut up her food still. I will give her crackers, animal cookies (the gerber ones), cheddar bunnies. She shoves the cookies in her mouth just so she can have another one because she loves that I let her take it out of the bag herself. I even cut up cheese sticks. I cut grapes in quarters but if they are big they get cut a lot more.
So very glad I'm not alone. I cut everything. EVERYTHING. My mom just handed her a banana last week while I took a shower. By the time I got out and realized it, she'd eaten 3/4 of it no problem. I likely need to lighten up, but I'm comfortable in control-freak land, dammit.
Grapes, I always cut grapes as I have super paranoia about grapes. Other than that I'm not too worried about choking. I think because we did BLW in the beginning I got past most of my choking fear months ago.
I do still break things in smaller pieces just because of the throwing thing, I like to "feel it out" so if she is in a food throwing mood I can reign it in before an entire sandwich has been thrown to the dogs.
Stuff like bananas and cheese sticks I don't cut up, she will rarely throw those items away.
I cut some things, not crackers or things, bit I still cut grapes (only in half though). I stopped cutting blueberries. I cut strawberries because it's neater that way. And meat and chicken.
Oh and I cut his ravioli today and then felt silly. He didn't seem to mind
I still cut most things, because Caleb is in the "shove it all in" category as well, especially with bananas. I've let him gnaw on some whole apple slices at times and toast and waffles are whole, but most things are still cut up.

Depends on the food. From the sandwich thread obviously she bites and chews those for the most part, but they are very soft. Most things get cut up still. She can hold bananas and eat them, all kids of bread and crackers, but fruit, even steamed veggies, I cut up. I haven't given grapes for fear of chocking, they just seem scary. I might try them now that I see a lot of you have success with cutting them. I am slowly letting her try things by holding them, but we are going slow since she has always gagged a lot from the start.
I cut everything still. I cut grapes into 1/4 or 1/8 depending on the size of the grape.
I do give her whole crackers but that is about it. I am very afraid of choking.
I still cut up Lydia's food too. Especially grapes, I have always told her when she eats them to bite them and then chew.
Calista grabbed a peachy off the counter and started eating it whole.
I gave Ansley a whole peach yesterday and she devoured it! She's good with stuff that's "too big" it's the easily crammable stuff that she'll shove in whole.
