Good advice from the others. The idea of painting that chair white makes me sad.... love it as it is, and love mixing finish colors. White can be tricky, and can look cheap if it isn't done just right.

Honestly, I like it better dark. It's a good anchor for the corner and I think it'll look off since the white paint and the white fabric likely won't be the same white.

GBCN won't let me edit my last post, but I just saw where you said you would recover it. That would be better, but I still like the dark wood. Don't paint!

I'm the first person on board when it comes to painting wood, but I would not paint this. The wood adds a touch of warmth and goes well with the beige carpet. Cute room!

Again, I like it how it is, and agree with texassmith, but you should do what you and DH agree to. As far as painting the wood and recovering, that's a lot of work and I'm totally lazy, so I'd probably paint it white and then get throw pillows and a cozy blanket to hang over the back for color. But as I said, I have that same rocker with wood and brown cushion in a room with greige walls and a white crib and some gray/turquoise accents for DS#3's nursery.
i love me some white furniture, but since the cushions are white, i would totally leave it dark and let that be the anchor in the room.
is the cushion white white though? we have a poang chair and ours is a cream-yellow leather (SIL picked it out, we inherited it from her). our cushion colour would look awful with a white frame.
also, where did you get your crib? it's exactly what i'm looking for, but i'm finding it difficult to source things in canada and i really don't want to order from the states.
I'm from Canada too it's from lussobaby in North Vancouver. It's called the Mercer by Babyletto. It's definitely cheaper in the states but you would have to sneak it across the border since it doesn't meet the stupid rules (and by stupid I mean the ones that say the warnings have to also be in French etc, the crib itself is identical) I even emailed babyletto and asked them. heygrey
thanks! i'm in kelowna :-)
we have a few baby stores here that i'll try, but i wouldn't be surprised if we make a weekend run to the coast for a few things. our selection is fairly lacking and shipping is just so expensive.
i was all set to do most of our shopping in seattle (i'm american so we avoid the cross boarder shopping limits), but then i started reading about all the restrictions... basically i can buy clothes and blankets. i knew car seats were restricted, but i didn't realize cribs and other things were. it's a huge cost difference, i'm bummed.
to introduce another variable- how about dying the cover instead of recovering? I use procion dyes and loooove them, not RIT.
I looked in to it, but the fabric is 65% polyester which as I understand is a bitch to dye. If it is possible I would love this option.
too bad, yeah polyester is not good for dying. I was assuming the cover was cotton. I would probably experiment with dying anyway if the color didn't have to be very dark.
