nope. DH's cousin just posted this on her instagram. She's in FL. I'm not sure if she took this or if it's even real.. but nope. In case you can't tell, it's a gator with a deer.
this just makes me laugh. Obviously it's better than a dog, but hooooly shit. a whole deer.
That picture was circling around years ago. I can't remember if it was ever verified as real or not, but it's probably possible. There are some HUGE alligators in the south. I should point out what that deer would look like if a shark had it....but I know we all have different things that set us off. lol
Lol, I asked cousin where the picture was taken, but she hasn't responded - i'd never seen it before.
Oh, I know the damage sharks can do. We've been fishing and only come up with a fish head bc a shark had gotten the rest. Like I said, I know my fear of gators is irrational - I don't know why they scare me so much more than sharks. I've actually been swimming when sharks have been around and been completely fascinated vs. terrified.
There is this huge crater we go to when we are in the bahamas and there are ALWAYS sharks swimming around in it - not nurse sharks.. "real" sharks (i know nurse sharks are real, but they are pretty docile in comparison to other sharks) .. I just think they are amazing creatures. I love seeing them.
2 nurse sharks, but they are still neat. From our 2011 trip.
One critter I don't have to worry about! Glad your family is safe.
This reminds me of the wolf issue in Minnesota - mostly much further North than I where live. They opened up a wolf hunt this year with a small number of permits per region because they are getting more numerous, and close to people, livestock, baby calves and lambs, etc.
There is definitely mixed feelings and controversy about killing wolves in MN.
The wolves are an issues in WI too, even central WI. They used to be very strongly protected but now they are become over populated and destructive/dangerous so hunting seasons are opening back up. We see coyotes all the time in CO and they don't bother me, but if I see a wolf in WI I freak out a bit -- similar, but so different.
I'm a big pansy about any body of water I can't see through, so no lakes, big rivers or oceans for me. At least not for long. I spaz when I feel sea weed touching my leg. Sharks come off as more scary than alligators, but that is because they are so foreign and they live in the bodies of water that already freak me out!
I wish I was on my computer at home. I have a great picture of DH floating in the water behind a canoe, with two alligators on the bank behind him. lol
nope. LOL. Some of our friends go canoeing down the Ocklawaha River.. nope, not me. I know my fear is ridiculous, since i'll jump into the ocean with no problems .. but alligators man, nope.
I looked & couldn't find the picture I was thinking of, but here's another one. DH is the dumb-dumb on the right.

We canoed and camped a lot in south florida growing up. We once canoed right over the back of a gator. I thought it was a gravely section of the river. I was wrong. Then once, we were "bathing" in the river and all of a sudden my mom started screaming bloody murder at us to get out of the water because there was a moc right behind us heading our way.
On the other hand, we got to play with river otters once which was pretty cool.

Yeah, I get way more nervous about the moccasins than the gators. We were tubing once in college & there was a HUGE moccasin on a tree branch a few inches above the water. I was freaking out a bit until we were a decent distance from it. I don't know why they freak me out & not the gators. Generally speaking, they both probably want to be as far away from you as possible.....but the snakes always seem to get closer.
