I haven't used them, but from what I hear, you have to have lots of layers of paint and have it rather seasoned for it to work without having to touch-up. I'd just go with colored chalk first to see if that works for you. It was only $4 at our local store.

I have some like that from Hobby Lobby (I'll go link it in a minute) but it looks really good on my board. And I used the white one to draw on my board. (I would PIP it but it's our names, so I don't feel comfortable with that.)

I've used them on some chalkboard paint that I had in my classroom this year. An eraser won't take them off, but a wet paper towel will. It never messed up my paint when I used them. I really liked how smooth they wrote.
Simple green helps on those chalk ink markers too. We have one on our kitchen and use it frequently. Sometimes a wet towel doesn't get the color out enough. If you can stand the smell simple green works like magic.
