Do any of you ladies belong to junior league in your area? I need something that I can do to get out every now and then and I really want to meet some new people . I thought about joining, as their membership opening is right now. Anyone know anything about it?
I did the Junior League for a few years! I had to withdraw when henry was about 1 - I just couldn't meet my requirements with him and DH's job ( he works long hours). Most meetings were at 6:30 at night for example. Baaaaad time. The volunteer projects I was usually ok on because I could select ones with weekend or daytime hours, but the other requirements were tough. I couldn't justify getting a sitter as many times as I needed.
Anyway, it is a wonderful organization. Great projects, great women, great networking. My mom was President of her Junior League chapter when I was younger, and it used to be very different. You no longer need to be "sponsored" to join, for example. Your first, probationary, year is a lot of work, but not bad. You should try it out!
It was a decent mix. My provisional group was great. At least In my experience, though, the demographic was very clearly skewed - I felt like a pauper most of the time. But, at least with those in my groups I never felt badly about that, it was just very clear. KWIM? That could be regional, though.
Another option to look into is the Jaycees (junior chamber of commerece) I was quite active in our local chapter for awhile. With the Jaycees you can participate in as many or as few events that you want to. When I was single, I did a ton of activities and was on the board of directors for a year. Then after I met DH, I wasn't as active and participated in the events that I wanted to. I met a lot of great people there.

devonpow I think our JL would be that way as well. I was looking through their fb page and it is very clear that it is the girls that come from well to do families in our area. I think I may give it a go and see what happens! It can't hurt right?
