We have come to the "I want to do it!" stage. E wants to do a lot of things herself, even things she can't quite accomplish. High on the list is feeding herself with a spoon. Breakfast this morning included a lot of whining ans struggling because the spoon I was helping her use was too big, but she'd refuse to eat if I spooned to yogurt into her mouth myself.
We have one, the bendy kind, but need more so she can practice with them every day (and to save my sanity). Are there any particular ones your family likes? I might try a few kinds to see if she has a preference.
Carter seems to like the OXO metal ones. We tried the Boon bendy ones, but he'd just play with the bendy part. He also switches hands a lot, so I couldn't figure out which way to bend it.
The take and toss ones work really well for us right now. Once he's a big bigger, we will use the ikea ones.
We use these too. Generally he just holds it in his hand while he feeds himself with the other hand. This way he feels like he is eating like I am, and he randomly practices with it. More often than not, he picks up the food, places it on the utensil, and drops it on the way to his mouth. He gives up and just eats with his hand.
Are you talking about the little metal ones in the regular silverware area from IKEA, or plastic ones from the kid section? Or both?
The plastic ones from the kid section. That's what I had for DD1 , so DD2 uses them. She's really good at using them, they're a little big, but they work.

I like the Zak! Brand ones at target. They are in the same area where you find "the" target sippy cups. They are metal. The dollar spot metal ones are great too! They just aren't always around.
