Crap ton might be cheaper to get a tank. But I'd call around to party stores and get quotes but I also think transporting wise if you really want that many a tank and doing it at home yourself might be best.

Unfortunately even with the helium shortage they aren't restricting it at all. So you could easily still go rent a tank or purchase helium balloons. Given the shortage (and the fact that it affects availability for research and medical use) I'd seriously consider other options. Could you just purchase regular balloons and put them on long white sticks (like you often see at carnivals) to make them look like they are floating?
If you are dead set on helium, I know you can get large quantities at Fred Meyer in Ballard or Display & Costume in Northgate.
Is the Red Balloon Company still around? It's been probably close to two years since I've been to the Cap Hill location, but they might be worth a shot.
I'm glad others mentioned the helium shortage, so I don't have to be the wet blanket. Sorry, spunbutterfly.
Iknorite?
I think I got it after the first response and I mentioned I'd find something else to do, but everyone else seems to just enjoy raining on my now non-existent parade.
 And you know that in most of the country, this would be a non-issue. Seattle Guiltâ„¢ strikes again! Just wait until having helium balloons becomes judgworthy.
Is there a reason you wouldn't be able to fill the balloons at the condo? I'm just thinking of the major PITA its been when I've had only ONE balloon in my back see, or 10, plus you'd probably have to make a lot of trips.

There'd be no place to do it really (and take my time). My parents' unit is undergoing a major reno and there won't be space there to store balloons or a helium tank and the party room is on a reserve only basis, and I wouldn't feel comfortable just leaving stuff like there over night.
Also, did you hear? There's a helium shortage.
Oh, and I was planning on tying the balloons to the top of my car rack and driving over. XD It's a 10 minute drive from my house to their condo building in lqa.
Haha, yes, I was ignoring that because I didn't want to be fun crusher And also, I had a second part of my post about blowing up balloons with something other than helium but then researched it first and realized they don't float using that method (baking soda & vinegar).
(Why don't they use Neon in the meantime? Its a noble and nonflammable, or does it not float either?)
ok, lol, I would never have guessed why this thread was so long!
but a small thread-jack: as for the helium, someone know what important science/medicine requires helium? Like, is it just sad that we won't have it any more (because that's the problem, FYI, there's a limited amount on earth and there's no way of 'making' more) or is there some important reason I don't know about?
This piece has a pretty decent run-down of all its important uses. I didn't know until I heard something on NPR several months back.
