My aunt has been in ICU for about a week and a half now. They don't know what is wrong, but she is full of infection, so yesterday they were going to try a new course of a different antibiotic to see if that helps. She had been sedated but they stopped those 3 days ago, but she is still not waking up. Hopefully this new antibiotic will help, but she has a long way to go if it starts to work. My mom is driving there now and I know she is going with the intent of saying good bye. She has 3 daughters, and the youngest 2 (17 and 22) haven't been to see her, so my mom is pissed about that, but no one has a clue what they are thinking, and they would never tell you what it is. I wonder if they are scared to go because she is in the same hospital as my uncle was in when he died? I don't know, but my mom said if they are scared imagine how she feels when she is there all alone. Or they could be thinking that she will be fine and not really understand how sick she is. Who knows. I am kind of rambling now, but any thoughts and prayers would be really appreciated.
She is currently on life support, but they have now figured out one of the illnesses she has is C-diff and are treating it quite aggressively. If the can beat this infection, she has a chance to recover as her kidney and pancreas function has improved since she was first admitted. So, hopefully because of how they are treating it, it will be successful.
I'm so sorry, latte! I hope her improvements continue. Did her youngest daughters visit her yet?
No. My mom got there yesterday and her oldest daughter was there. However, my mom said that it's probably best that they don't go see her (if they don't want to) because they should just remember her the way she was and not how sick she is now.
