Yesterday was the first time where I really questioned whether or not I can finish this race. My ride was sooo hard. It was well over 90 (which is not typical really ever around here!). I kept getting lost, and I had to back track and sometimes just sit there and try to figure out where I was (even with the GPS on my phone), I had to stop and buy water and stop at water fountains for water. So my actual moving time was about 5:45 (so many hillls, which I actually had to stop on I was so stinking hot!) my time with stops almost 7 effing hours and I only did 80 miles.
I'm just so mad at myself for doing so bad on this ride. I thought it was going to go so much more smoother than it did. I think it would have been better with another person, and if I actually knew the route better.
Please give me a pep talk and tell me it will all be ok .
I feel frustrated for you. I think the tough thing (for me) about cycling vs. running is that you can get a lot more lost a lot quicker because you are moving so much faster. I hate getting lost esp when you are trying for a pace/distance. I think that having someone with you/a better directional would make all the difference.
Also- being from the land of, as they say, "Heat, Hills and Humidity" I am allllll too familar with how this can zap an bit of fitness you may have. Shhooo mercy, 90 IS HOT for your area!
I think you did great considering the circumstances, and ya know, you've been busting your butt for a while now, maybe it was just your body asking for a mental break?
Just like everyone has bad runs, we have bad rides too. My longest solo ride before my tri/100km ride was 25 miles of pure unadultrated hell. I got lost multiple times, I had a nasty headwind, and I Just wanted to quit. Race and 100km went fine.
You are going to be fine. I'd be shocked if you didn't have at least one crappy ride in the kind of training you're doing. All things considered, I'd say you're right on track. You know now shitty day doesn't ruin a training cycle. Your next one will probably be full of rainbows and properly leashed puppies.
Take a deep breathe. You are going to be FINE. You're going to be more than fine. You can do this. This heat, which I SHOULD be used to, has me questioning my goals, and I only have to take 11 min off of a marathon. You're training for a freaking IM! You had horrible weather that your body has had no chance to acclimate to. What happened to you is a very normal response to bad conditions. Shake it off and move forward.

Try to forget about the bad ride. I had a horrible ride one month out from my half. Like I was done, no more left in the tank. The idea of doing anything besides falling over was out of the question. I tried not to let it get me down, but it still did. I repeated that same ride 2 weeks later and killed it along with the actual race day ride. You are doing awesome!
