We have double front doors. They are french style with glass. They look similar to these (found via google). We have sheer curtains over them so people can't just look right in. Still, I feel uncomfortable about them from a safety standpoint. Is there anything I can do to make them safer / more secure without replacing them? Replacements aren't in the budget right now and won't be in the foreseeable future. Also, do you think they would look good with non-sheer curtains? At night when the interior lights are on you can see the outline of whatever is going on inside and it creeps me out.
Clearly the previous owners of our house loved this style of door. lol. We also have a single one between our master bedroom and the attached bathroom. Is there anything I could put on it to give some semblance of privacy? We have a curtain right now but I would really like something else (blinds?).
We had a similar (single) front door at our first house and I ended up putting a bamboo blind over it, kind of like this:
I kept it down all the way most of the time, unless we were entertaining.
What about frosting for the the glass in the door between the master bedroom and bath?
Those blinds are a really good idea! For some reason I didn't even think about those.
Is frosting glass hard? I attempted to use some window film to make a different glass door not see through and it was a total epic failure. That's a great idea! I'll see if DH is open to it. I'm not sure he will be since you can clearly see the toilet through the door and (sorry - TMI) he likes to poop in peace. lol

Not to freak you out or anything, but that style of door is super easy to open, even when it's locked. From a security standpoint, if replacement with a single and sidelights isn't in the budget, I'd install foot bolts on both doors.

I know!! I was JUST reading about how unsafe they are. It kind of freaks me out. They do both have foot bolts but I feel like that isn't really much protection. One door has bolts on the top and bottom (it isn't made to be used regularly) and the main door has one at the bottom but we rarely use it. My FIL said they are some sort of glass that is difficult to break (I guess there's already a film on it that goes under the lip around each panel of glass?). I didn't know that when I posted. I'm thinking that we should look into how much a new door will cost and make plans to save for it.
