Our 5 year anniversary is coming up and we're going to be celebrating in NYC a week early.
I have no idea what to get him. I was thinking a watch, but he has one already that he loves. He is a tech-y guy, but I want to get him something more meaningful than something from Apple. I was thinking maybe cuff links but he only has two or three shirts that he'd need them for. Any ideas?
Also, I'm proud of myself I'm usually very "whatever" about he gets me, but I told him this morning that it is a big anniversary and I do expect something nice and thought out. I also told him that anniversary dinner plans in NY are on him since I was planning everything else. I usually just suck it up and pout about it later, so I'm trying to be more assertive this year.

A nice piece of luggage (or two, win for you!) Tickets to Book of Mormon or another show for your trip
We're already going to Book of Mormon - that was my first plan but our friend has extra tickets for the showing here. sad trombone. Luggage could work.
I usually take the traditional gift (wood for 5th year) and poke around on Etsy until I find something cool.
Uncommon Goods has watches made out of wood. I don't know how sturdy they are, though. Is he a sports fan? Maybe you could get him something made from piece of an old stadium seat or bat or something. Or a series of photos/art in wood frames.

Etsy has some good ideas. I may buy him a wine box with a good bottle of scotch in it.
