I don't know your numbers but I am also struggling with anemia right now.
You can try a liquid based iron, and drink it with orange juice.
It's quickly absorbed and easier on your stomach. The vitamin c helps with iron uptake
Do not take iron with calcium.
Another option is to take iron in a pill that is easier on your digestion: I take gnc brand " gentlesorb" iron and have thankfully not had any problems
Consider looking at your diet as well. I don't think diet alone can solve anemia but it can definitely help.
I started eating things like homemade beef jerky, trail mix with raisins, pumpkin and sunflower seeds in it, beets, spinach, raisin bran... Just upping iron intake and it " seems" to be helping.
I thought it was supposed to be binding as well, but so far it has not had that effect.
I am taking 65mg 3 times a day. My doctor prescribed it so I don't really know what the alternatives are as far as gentleness, but if this keeps up I will call and ask if there are any other types I can try.
The doc said that severe anemia like mine is not typically caused by diet, but either major blood loss or malabsorption. I have to get scoped pretty soon to check for ulcers.
I know that it's not actual blood. However, I have tried liquid vitamins with iron before and the iron taste was so strong that it gave me the gagifying impression that I was drinking fruit-flavored blood. It was disgusting.

Saw this on the main page..I really struggled with my iron numbers during my last pregnancy and finally the Metagenics Iron, Floradix didn't help me, worked and it didn't upset my stomach. I also started cooking with cast iron and drank wheat grass because I had low platelets as well. GL!
I saw this on the main page and hoped my response might help. Ask your doctor about BiferaRx. I also have to take iron (and b12 innections.) This is so much gentler on my stomach than others, plus it has folic acid and B12. HTH.

Zoid, I tried liquid iron supplements once, and I thought it tasted like drinking liquid pennies. It was so, so gross. Nothing could mask it, even mixing with food. I think it bothers some people more than others. I'm on the side who can't do the liquid.

I was hoping that maybe some brands didn't taste as awful, but they probably do. I couldn't even choke that stuff down, it was so gross.
And I guess with the amount that I am currently taking, more gentle probably won't even be that gentle.
