I dropped Dot off at her boarding facility today (we're heading out tonight for 2 weeks) ... and I feel so guilty I almost cried in the parking lot. WTH?
Does this happen to anyone else? Please make me feel less like a loser for tearing up over leaving my dog at the doggy Ritz Carlton.

You are not alone. I have a minor break down every time I go on my summer vacation. They stay with my mom who they absolutely love and get TONS of playtime with her GSD mix. They don't even know I am gone but I ask my mom to send me pictures and video because I struggle with being away from them. We are in the same boat .
I actually did cry when we dropped Dexter off for the day of our wedding. And that was for *one day.* He has severe crate phobia though, and we could hear his cry-barks as we left. That did me in. To this day I can still hear it if I think about it. We had never used a cage boarding facility before (and haven't used one since), but we were in my hometown which doesn't have a cage-free. And everyone who could have watched him was at our wedding. It was awful.
I felt that way about boarding my dog for the first time this past weekend. (At a lady's house, no less, and she regularly goes there for daycare so it's not an unfamiliar situation to her at all. But I still felt soooo bad.)
Then I came back to get her, and she actually came and greeted me, then turned around to go back in the other room to play with the other dogs again! Obviously, she was not missing me as much as I was missing her!

Thanks, ladies. I'm glad I'm not alone.
I've already emailed the facility for an update. And heard back that she's settled in fine and "everyone loves her." But I've been encouraged to email as much as I want for updates.
In semi-related news, the "caretaker" in her room (they are cage free and divided by personality/play type/age) was on SYTYCD last night ... www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlG-j_lkm74
I feel terrible when I have to board the dogs too. I call frequently for updates. I'm sure they think I'm nuts, but I don't care. I sometimes call their daycare too to see if they're having fun.

We had to board ours for the first time this past weekend (we've always had family watch them) and I bawled like a little baby. Sable didn't care, she went right with the kennel attendant like, "Hey, new friend, yay!", but Roxie kept looking back at us like, "What's going on guys? Come on!" and I lost it.
Of course they were fine, and you have to do what you have to do, you know? So you're not the only one.
On the plus side, when I picked them up, they were super excited to see me, so that was nice. And they do love the vet. They get lots of play time there.

OMG I LOVE YOUR CARETAKER!! Hahahahaha!! Dot is the luckiest girl around to be hanging with him and the other doggies for the next couple of weeks!

Oh my gosh I loved him!!! He seems like the nicest person. I was sad he didn't go to Vegas because I wanted to see more of him (even though I know he isn't "up to par" with the other dancers).

I still haven't been able to do it yet. I've spent a night or two away from her while she stayed with H, but I just realized that she has never spent even a night apart from at least one of us since we got her almost 2 years ago. Is that unhealthy? lol
I thought we were going to have to board her while we're at the beach next week, but the ILs actually found a pet-friendly beach house so we're taking her with us. I'm sorry, that probably doesn't help you feel any better! I'm weak when it comes to leaving her. haha
