Wow. So 20 month old Pumpkin has started expressing interest in the potty: asking to sit on it, telling me when he wants a new diaper.
Should we put out a potty chair casually? I am fine with having it sit around for exposure's sake.
Strategies? I think my biggest question is on the logistics of the cloth diaper. Should I take it on and off every time he wants to sit on the potty? He hates having it put back on.
On a related note: I stripped the diapers super well last weekend. Til they smelled gorgeous. This weekend, while washing them they smelled like they could stand to be stripped again.? WTF??
I'd put a potty out and let him try it out. You could start by letting him sit on it when you change him/before bath/when he gets up in the AM/naps/before bed. He may surprise you, but he may be interested for a bit and then lose interest. What about training underpants that are easier up/down?
N is totally interested. He's pee'd and pooped on his own, on the potty. But he is still learning how to feel it. If that makes any sense. He won't sit in his diaper for more than a second after her does either so he's typically naked. His poop never got solid so we switched from cd to disposables around 14 or 16 months? And he rips them off at the slightest trickle. It's driving me bonkers! He's not capable of telling us he has to pee yet but he doesn't want to sit in anything and we are wasting so much $$ on barely used diapers!
So we let him run around naked. Our house is 90% hard wood and I wash the rugs once a week and if he does pee, he says "uh oh uh oh uh oh" until we tell him it's ok and clean it up. So I'm pretty sure we haven't missed an accident (and with the 100 degree get wave, I'm sure we would have smelled it by now!)
That said, I have no advice. I'm at a loss. We're buying him 3 more pottys this week and see of he takes to a different kind and to leave in various locations around the house. Our boys are very young, from what I've read, to be training. Most boys don't train until 2.5/3 (am I right moms of boys?) so... I don't know. When I need him to be in a diaper, like if he hasn't pooped yet, I put on a snap cloth diaper since I'm fine cleaning pee off the floor but not poop! Blerg! And I don't trust him to tell me yet.
He also wears big boy undies a lot, but usually pees in them. But at least it's contained.
Sorry to ramble. figure it out and tell me your secrets!
Yeah, I know it happens but that does seem early. Mine is over three and a half and is maybe mostly potty trained except for poop, which is driving me crazy. He didn't even truly start until Memorial Day weekend, although it was part of our routine for a while to go every morning when he got up and every night before we brushed teeth. He showed some interest around 2 or 2.5, but it was very short-lived. I am so ready to be done.
Ditto bluedaisyus. DS showed interest early on, but it was fleeting. It wan't until 3y2m that he was actually potty trained for pee, and he's still not for poop (he has constipation issues, though, so I'm sure that's not helping). DD, on the other hand, was potty trained for pee loooong before DS.
When we went cold turkey - I don't think you are there yet - we just did t-shirts and underwear. It reduced the amount of wet clothes (though we had PLENTY of wet underwear (29 pairs on the first day) but to make it easier for on/off. We obviously didn't leave the house/yard without pants.
