Gah. I even got up. Two mornings in a row. It isn't even a can't pry myself out of bed issue. It is a can't stand the treadmill/legs feel mega sluggish this early in the morning problem. Seriously, what is my problem?
Theyre not awake yet. Be ok with your first mile sucking, then the rest will be better. I promise.
Also, i dont know about out there, but here its humid as hell, so any later than 5am and i dont think i could run. Blech.
All of this! Especially the humidity. It was so muggy, I actually groaned audibly when I walked out of the gym this morning.
I also find that I do better working out in the morning if I'm pressed for time. This morning I wouldn't have been able to work out at all if I wasn't out of the door by 4:55, so I didn't even bother with the snooze button.
If I'm not in bed by 9, I can't be up early enough to work out (we leave for work at 6:30). Lately DS isn't in bed by then, much less me. Even when I can drag myself out, I move so so slow. Yawning isn't conducive to a good run.
Man, 5 am just sucks. Running or not, in bed early or not, doesn't matter how long I've been doing it, it blows. So part of it is coming to terms with the suck, but it also sounds like maybe your body needs a little more sleep right now.
I really can't. But also I hate morning running in the summer and would much rather do it in the evening anyway, so I have no reason to pry myself out of bed at that hour.
I'm with you, Brit. Even if I manage to get my ass out the door, the whole run just sucks. I feel way too sluggish and just don't enjoy it as much as afternoon/evening runs when I'm more awake.
No wrath from me. I hate running in the AM and it is almost impossible for me to do speed work in the morning. I've been doing it lately because I CANNOT run when it is 90 out and even though I hate it at the time I feel better when I get my workout out of the way.
I do it, but I still kind of hate it. I have always been an afternoon/evening worker outer, but between the heat and finding the time I switched to morning. The first week or two were pretty rough, but you do get used to it. It gets a little easier every week. Getting out of bed is the hard part.
I have to eat something that will give me a sugar/energy rush first thing. Usually a handful of granola. Otherwise I spend the first part of my run wishing I could die.
Update: I did end up running. I only ran 5 miles versus the 8 that I had in mind because I sat around for so long thinking about it, but at least I did something. After the first sucky mile, it actually ended up being a pretty reasonable run. I don't know why I couldn't talk myself into starting it sooner, it was just a total mental roadblock.
trigal - I hate the treadmill at all times of the day, but H was already at work and DD was still asleep, so...yeah. It was treadmill at the crack of dawn or 90 degrees and humid at 5PM.
I read something over the weekend where the author said he tries not to think about running, he just does it, because once he thinks about it, he doesn't want to do it anymore!
I said the exact same thing to a guy that I talked to walking into work this morning. He asked if I was still "running every day" and I told him that I was only running on the days that I didn't think too hard about it.
I like to have coffee a small snack, and at least 20 minutes of up & doing stuff. And the first 5 minutes or so are definitely warm up. Perhaps you will never "like" running early. I guess try to do your runs mid-day or evening as often as you can?
I hate it. It feels SO HARD. I think I'm going to try the "run after dinner" approach and start heading out at 8pm. That might help with my nighttime snacking, too.
I waited until 10:30 this morning to run and I thought I was going to die - 80 and 87% humidity:( The sun and the humidity ate me up but I agree with you - Whenever I get up super early to run, my body feels so sluggish and the first couple miles are yuck.
I add in about 30 minutes in the morning when I run early so that I can "get things moving" and wake up a bit. At that point, I just tell myself to get my lazy arse out the door because I'm already awake anyway and it won't happen later in the day.
its an adjustment! I cant run in the afternoon, ive gotten so used to my 4:30 am runs, that the afternoons are like that, and i just push push push my way through it, unfortunately time is the only solution

How long did it take you to adjust? I have been doing it for a while now, like pretty consistently since mid-March.

When I first started working out in the morning, I had to do diluted gatorade instead of water. Even though it was only 30 minutes and I know I shouldn't need gatorade/electrolytes for that time, it helped SO.MUCH. Now that I'm used to it, I don't need it any more, but will allow myself to have a little if I'm feeling extra sluggish.

oh wow, ive been doing the 430 am runs for about 2 years now, I run every morning though, so it s more of a routine/habit and there are def days i dont feel like it........ive started doing yoga in the evenings, this really helps in making me feel so much lighter on my feet in the morning!!!
