We were about to buy our kids a playground when I came across The Handmade Home's blog and was inspired by their hideaway. So this past month H and I worked on creating our own for our kids with just a few minor changes. It's not quite finished yet, we still need to add a roof, railing and a couple other small details. We also want to add a rock climbing wall that comes in through the back window, a rope ladder in another and a little monkey bar thing for active play. But I'm really proud of what we've created wanted to share.
Love this- I've been trying to convince DH that we should find a spot for a playhouse in the yard, something like this would be so cool, and could grow with the kids too.

That was my thinking, too. Playgrounds are great, but they cost $1000 and once the kids are done they're done. This cost the same price and I figure it can transition to a hangout once they reach the teen years. And, I love that it will encourage creative play, too.

Thanks everyone.
My kids are 3 and 4, which is why we made ours closer to the ground than The Handmaiden Home did. We were going to add a railing, too. But the kids really like jumping from the side into the grass, and they don't seem in danger of falling off like I was afraid they would, so I think we'll leave it off.
It really came together fast. Just a couple weekends worth of time, plus painting and staining.
