I am struggling with this weather. I went trail running at 10am yesterday, 98 degrees and no shade + hilly....it was hot but okay. I went at 545 this morning, it was much cooler, cloudy but 45% humidity and it just makes me so crabby. But, I don't think 45% is humid compared to a lot of places. Am I just wussy? What am I doing wrong?
I drink water all day, I carry a small water bottle with electrolytes (plus an extra nuun tablet for refill), I wear a hat and carry a towel.
Its hot, but i dont think thats very humid. But you live in the desert, right, so for you, thats definitely humid.
But ive been struggling with the weather here too, its been very humid, For example, themother day, at 5am it was 80 not sure of the % humidity, but the real feel was 86 - at 5am! During the day, its been about >80% humidity most days, and its been awful. The is one of the worst summers i can remember in a looooong time.mand next week its supposed to be in he 90s and humid, all week. Fun fun.
I've been pushing EFS (eletrolyte fuel systems ) on this board like it's crack! It has much more sodium than Nuun. Maybe you can try a different electrolyte drink?

I use a powder at home and in my water bottle (I buy it bulk on Amazon so its cheap) but I like taking the nuun tablets with me because I can wrap it in foil and put it in the little pocket in my running shorts. My water bottle is small so I need to refill it sometimes.
My sweat is not salty at all - what does that mean? I kinda remember in previous summers I had dried salt on me at the end of a run and I never have that anymore. I also dont remember struggling like this! So maybe its related?
That's not at all humid by my gulf coast standards, but it's all about what your body is adapted to.
And it is amazing how quickly you adapt to the low humidity.
Wisconsin can get pretty humid in the summer. There were days when walking outside made me feel like I was being swaddled in wet toilet paper. It's almost hard to breathe in it. Growing up with no AC, book pages would get wavy from the humidity in the summer.
But now? 45% is "OMG, what is with this humidity??"

It isn't very high compared to here (Maryland) but if you aren't used to it humidity can suck your soul. I haven't had a run below 90% in weeks except once and that was 90 with about 85% humidity .
I think 87* is objectively hot, and if you are not used to any humidity, even 45% will kick your butt.
I just got back from running 8, and it was about 75*, 75% humidity. The temp was not bad, but the humidity absolutely destroyed me. There were a pathetic number of walk breaks involved.

Yea, its hot, especially with that humidity.
I know that isn't excessive humidity like a lot of people deal with but when you aren't used that much humidity it sucks. I grew up in WI so I know humidity but I still thought I was going to sweat to death at today's race, where it was 77 and 55% humidity. If I was in WI I would have jumped for joy. In CO that is really humid!

This. I live in SoCal so we often have low humidity. Earlier this week my run was in 70 degrees with 90% humidity and it sucked. I felt so hot that I was fantasizing about water by the end of my whopping 4 miles.

87 sounds very hot to me. But it's been about 75 degrees and 95-98% humidity for my morning runs lately, so I'm not sure what a warmer temperature with lower humidity would feel like. Maybe about the same?
I equate it to what the air feels like after taking a very warm shower in a room with no air circulation.
Humidity sucks out your soul. By my standards, that is really low humidity, it stays in the 80%+ humidity range here for the whole spring and summer. I really do think it is all about what you adapt to though, so it probably feels swampy and horrible to you.
87 with 45% humidity would certainly be uncomfortable for me. Heck, it was only around 80 for my run this morning, and I don't know the humidity but it was probably less, and I was uncomfortable.
I agree with the others that your body adapts to humidity so if you're not used to it you can be miserable at first.
Guys. 45% RH with a temp in the high 80s puts the dewpoint in the 60s. That's gross and humid. For reference, that's roughly equivalent to an evening run in DC in July.
I think it is hot. If your pace is still "okay", that is probably why you are miserable. My pace needs to be approximately slow as fuck to feel decent.

Yes. I think it's hot.
Also, and this is just my thinking--even though you felt like it wasn't too bad the day before--running at 10 am with the sun fully up and it being 98*...that might have had an effect on how you felt the next day.
I cannot deal with the sun beating down on me. In AZ in the summer I would always get up early in the summer...Like I said, it's the cumulative effect.

I like your pace phrasing - it made me LOL and feel slightly less bad about myself.

well, it's relatively "okay"... still about a minute slower than my normal, not-dying, pace.
My friend also thinks its the cumulative effect so she suggested I do Insanity with her (she is certified and loves it). I tolerate Insanity so I agreed but we did it in her little side-house that had no air conditioning! Talk about humid!!! I couldn't breathe.
I am running out of options. Ugh, swimming is all that is left for me. SWIMMING.
