So my new prescription goggles came just in time for my Friday open water swim. When they came in the mail I put them on to see if they would work. Quite honestly, they were almost worse than being without glasses. I was pretty bummed, but decided to bring them to practice.
I put them on again a few minutes before swimming to see if my eyes would adjust, still no. A girl urged me to keep them on to see if being in the water would make a difference.
Got in the water, started swimming. I could see better! Not perfect by any means at all but I could see. We did some drill work and then a short 20 minute swim. On my way back I was sighting an orange buoy that was about 100 yards+ away. I COULD SEE IT!! I could actually see what I was trying to sight. This swim was a huge confidence booster for me! I could actually see!!
I had LASIK on January 3 of this year and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I really wish I'd done it 10 years ago. It's seriously life changing.
Nice! I've considered LASIK. My sister is an optometrist and works with an ophthalmologist who does it. My brother had it done, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I wear contacts all the time, though.

Is there a reason you can't wear contacts?
I have a really bad astigmatism and every time I wear contacts (I've tried all kinds) they are very expensive for my prescription, they dry out, they rotate and then i can't see, they won't rotate back into the right position.
Well your goggles probably don't correct your astigmatisn right? When you asked abt it before you said your rx was -4.00! Astig correction would be 2 more numbers... glad they seemed ok!
And lasik is awesome! I had it done almost 12 yr ago!

There were no other prescription options other than nearsighted or farsighted for the goggles. So I just went with that. Full prescription goggles would be several hundred dollars and they don't come in the brands I prefer.

Lasik was the best thing I ever got. It was life changing.
If your astigmatism is really bad, you might end up having to get PRK. Slightly different procedure, longer heal times, but longterm better results. Just wanted to through that out there in case someone tells you that you're not eligible for Lasik.
