I think the police did a half assed job at investigating and assumed from the beginning that it was self defense and when the state AG came on the case, they were left holding the bag. the whole angle of an investigation changes if they assume facts.
All of my fb feed is very disappointed in the verdict. So far I don't have to unfriend anyone.
I live in such an ass backwards town. All but three people that have posted on FB so far are happy about the verdict. I feel like posting something terribly mean, but will continue to bite my tongue.
Of course, my town is full of racist, gun-wielding rednecks. Well, at least my HS classmates anyway.
Why bite your tongue? People should be ashamed. They need to be called out on their racism and stupidity.
Oops, I went to another site for a few minutes... clearly, I meant there are no winners in this....
How is there not a winner?
There's no winner because one child is dead and another man may have his "freedom" but his life is probably ruined. There's nothing good about any of it is what I mean. I kind of gave up on the FL jury system when they found Casey Anthony not guilty so I didnt watch every bit of this but even with the decent evidence they had in the CA trial she was still found not guilty and in this case the evidence all seemed to be so muddied and bungled that I didnt see how they wouldnt try to get around it with reasonable doubt.
I'm not disagreeing with everyone's thoughts that the outcome sucks...

I'm disgusted. I guess I'm naive, but I really thought he would be convicted. You can't just follow someone for wearing a hoodie and shoot and kill him!
I had to defriend someone on Facebook who is "praying for Zimmerman's safety." Er, if you want to pray, pray for the family of the teenager who was MURDERED!!!! FFS!!
Oh PUKE. This is a friend of a friend, but I'm about to ream her anyway.

*name* To me it should not have had so much media attention to begin with it was all racial, no Im not prejudice, but it was. A white girl up by mitt home town got killed this weekend by 3 black men for her tip money we that all over the news 15 minutes ago via mobile · Like · 1

I hope GZ leads a miserable and isolated life. There is a small part of me that has a teeny amount comfort in knowing he'll likely never be able to work anywhere, no one will want to serve him in a restaurant, every time he gets carded people give him an evil look, and that he has uncontrollable diarrhea the rest of his life.
Obviously my heart and thoughts are with the Martin family. Here's hoping they can find some peace.

His life is "ruined"?
The kid he killed is dead. He fucking killed somebody.
And he is free.
I'd say he won.
Any "ruining" of his life is self-inflicted and deserved.
For the most part, prosecutors would rather take a shitty, hard to prove case to trial rather than dismiss it outright because they're scared of losing.
First, thank you for not making fun of me for my question. I feel like an idiot on this topic, as usual. But could the difficulty of the case/lack of proof explain the reluctance elle mentioned? Maybe I am reading tone wrong, but it seems like people are insinuating that the prosecutors didn't want to take the case because they were happy to see a black boy killed by a white man, or just didn't care. I admit I'm taking the Florida sucks comments both here and on my BMB a little personally.
my husband was a prosecutor, and he said it could. especially without any eye witnesses (alive) other than the defendant. he's not been following this case super closely, that's just a general opinion not a zimmerman-specific one.

What are you talking about?! GZ is the winner in this. He didnt die and he got away with murder.
She's probably trying to say his life was turned upside down and he had to endure this. And has to live with his actions.
Still not even steven in my mind.
If my baby were killed I can't imagine how I'd feel/act.
I'd sure want to wipe the smile off his fat face.
Oh boo hoo though I mean he killed an unarmed teenager. So yeah... Sorry I'm not feeling sorry for him possibly feeling sad and stuff as he goes about his life as if nothing ever happened. Oh the poor man. Not.

it's really easy not to "ruin" your life via pursuing and shooting unarmed teenagers. sympathy: 0.

And by they, who does she mean?
Exactly.
She goes on to rant about how "they" kill each other in Chicago every day and it doesn't make the news.

Huh? You may need to re-read my shit.
Oh no,my comment was to only the first line of your shit...

I love my husband. He just posted this on FB
I'm a white man. My wife is white. Our daughter is white. And I mean very white. And because of this, I never have to worry about what I am sure every black parent is EXTRA worried about tonight - that some over zealous law enforcement figure, be they official or self-styled, is gonna go target or beat or shoot my little girl or any future little white boys I father for "looking suspicious" and get off scot free.
The above fact, my friends and family, is seriously fucked up. If you think America no longer has racial issues, your head is in the sand. My family's whiteness should not be a guarantee that the courts will do them right. The CONSTITUTION should be that guarantee.
Ever since a black man got elected president, America's hidden racial biases have soared straight back to the surface and it apparently really isn't getting any better yet.

Lawyers. My lawyer friend said this. "Remember, just because a court of law finds a Defendant Not Guilty does not mean that the Defendant is Innocent. Sometimes the correct verdict is not the right verdict."
Agree or disagree?
He has a pretty colorful lawyer-friend debate going on in his comments.
